Biology/NELC

I'm a junior considering Yale. I'd really like to double major in biology and Near Eastern Languages/Civilizations. Does anyone have any information about the quality of these departments? Also, how hard would it be to double major in these areas?

they're completely polar areas of study, so i'm assuming it would be difficult to double major...but i'm looking to go into NELC too, actually...i applied this year, so on the absolutely MINISCULE chance that I get in, i'll keep in contact :)

is there a difference between NEAR eastern and just eastern?

yah....eastern refers to asian countries such as china, japan, mongolia, etc..

NEAR eastern refers to the islamic eastern countries...turkey, iran, iraq, saudi arabia, etc...

So why not call it Middle East?

Maybe cause saying it's in the middle of the east shows a certain geographical bias.
But actually, "near east" is even more biased. It's the part of Asia nearest to Europe, but to Australia, for example.
