Hello, I am interested in both biology and neuroscience, but one is hotter? In another word, which one can possibly help me get in a top school?
What do you mean “hotter”? In a top school for what? Medical school? A PhD program? Both are offered in most (if not all) schools. Both are popular pre-med majors. Neither is any more effective than the other in getting you to grad school.
Sorry for the confusion. I meant which one can ease the competition to get in a top undergraude program.
Neither – both are common, popular majors.
Can you help rank the schools for premed?
JHU
Georgetown
wash U
Emory
Michigan
UNC chapel hill
Duke
Tufts
Cornell
vanderbilt
Rice
Notre Dame
Davidson college
Northwestern
Penn
UVA
university of Chicago
Rank by what criteria? Admission selectivity? % of students accepted to med school? Cost? Fit (which is what you should be thinking about!)?
All of those schools are good. If you go there and do well, you should be able to be comptitive for medical school. There is no ‘good’ or ‘best’ premed school.
Nevertheless, I recomend schools that have affiliated hospitals because a lot of research and clinical experience can be easily obtained. Georgetown Hopkins UVA Penn Tufts Emory Wash U and Duke all have affiliated hospitals.
And about major, it really doesn’t mean much of a difference whether you are bio, neuroscience, biochem, etc. Honestly, do what you are more interested.
You can study anything you want and still get into medical school IF you complete all pre-med requirements, have outstanding GPA, very high MCAT scores and some med-related ECs. All the schools on your list will offer premed reqs and contacts for shadowing programs, volunteer opportunities, research, etc.
