Biomedical Engineering/BioEngineering PhD 2010 Interviews

@memories2010 - thanks! unfortunately, i don’t have any other information :/

@memories2010 - I emailed Dr. Vunjak-Novakovic. I’m just speculating, but I feel like they will have another interview weekend after they meet their top recruits this weekend.

Hey all,

Thanks for the info! I’ve been emailing Prof. VN as well…interesting.

@sofrazzled: If you get any information at all during the time you are at Columbia, please do not hesitate to post! =)

@lpolstein: Hopefully we can make the cut, even if we are in the second tier! If either one of us gets info, let’s post it…

@chickenfajitas: I was surprised by Yale also, considering they are much lower in the rankings than Northwestern or Stanford.

Well, I heard back from Michigan today. I was rejected by an email sent from a grad assistant with the professor’s name in the signature…

Anyone else hear anything from other schools?

update: i’m going to duke next year!!!

i haven’t heard back from the other pending schools, but when I do I’ll post the info for you guys :)

memories2010, You heard back from Stanford already?

Couldn’t believe what just happened. I had thought I had no more chance at Duke but today one PI there just emailed me and said my interests aligned well with his. Thought I had made up my mind about going to BU, but guess I’d just give Duke another chance!

has anyone from canada (or outside of the US) heard back from u penn, duke, ucsd or gatech? i don’t understand why this is taking sooo long. it’s well into march already and not a single word from these schools.

Hello Guys, Just was curious if anyone attended the interviews at JHU on saturday 6th March.

just received rejection from MIT. Finally.

got rejected from BU today, by regular mail. great.

Hello Guys,
Received a message from the administrator at GATECH that they will post all the decisions by US mail this week and all the candidates would be notified in US by end of this week.

P.S.:- Those who already got interview invite can share how they were communicated and when are their interview dates.

“Received a message from the administrator at GATECH that they will post all the decisions by US mail this week and all the candidates would be notified in US by end of this week.”

Does this mean that if you haven’t had an interview with them then you are about to be rejected? Or are they still sending out interview invites?

i was also curious about this regarding duke. if you aren’t offered an interview, can you still be offered admission? if so, is it a rare occurence, or does it depend on the school?

@Random Guy 88

As far as GATECH is considered they are still giving out interview invites. And as far as rejection or denial letter is considered I am not sure. But in regards to my previous posting they will be sending interview invites (case by case basis) and possibly a rejection letter to those who are not under consideration anymore.

@ Synthbio I have no idea about Duke but it is rarely seen that u will get an acceptance without having an interview. If that happens (case by case basis) it is very early in the process and not this late.

From my boss: “So, our friends at Stanford tell me you’ve applied…”

Uh…surprise!

If they care enough to hunt down my current boss for a reference, I guess that’s a good sign. And I’m not fired yet, which is another good sign. =P

Is it April yet?

Officially got a rejection by GATECH in mail today. I am all out this year will try next year.
All the very best to others who are still optimistic.

Biopuzzle, I got mine by mail as well today. They didn’t even bother to spell my name correctly, and I’ve been an undergrad in BME at GT for the last 4 years! I really thought I had a great shot to get in. Oh well. I’m still waiting to hear back from a lot of schools, which isn’t a good sign. =/

Hey, haven’t logged on in a while, does anyone have any information on when the big fellowships come out (NSF,…)?

Also, is it true also that more awards will be given out this year since more government money was allocated to institutions like the NSF?

Thanks :)

@cheerios2: all the info is on the NSF site :slight_smile: it says that they will post recipients at the end of March/beginning of April. The main page of the NSFGRF has a quote from Obama saying that his policies “triple” the amount of awards this year (just scroll down and you’ll see it). Hope that answered your questions!
