Biomedical Engineering @ UC Davis a good choice?

I’m planning on attending UCD this year as an undeclared major but was hoping to switch into something related to biology or engineering. I’m leaning towards biomedical engineering but apparently UCD’s biomedical engineering program isn’t ABET accredited, which, from what I’ve heard, means that if I don’t go to grad school it won’t be very valuable.

Is this a good choice or should I just major in say, microbiology or mechanical engineering, and then just go into grad school as a biomedical engineer?

P.S. on a side note, how are the research opportunities at UCD? I’ve never really done any real research but am interested in helping discover cures to diseases.

Accreditation is not as important for biomedical engineering/bioengineering programs as it is for civil engineering or other similar programs. Also, I believe that UC Davis is seeking accreditation this year.
