Biomedical Research Minor

I recently came across this minor and it seems interesting. I was wondering if any current UCLA students could provide some input.

Which introductory course is more interesting and informative for a freshman with no lab experience, Biomedical Research 5HA or Life Science 10H? And, in your opinion, is the minor worth pursuing?

Thanks ahead!

Biomedical Research 5HA
Dr. Romero is the man if you are in his section.

 • Challenging but worth it
 • Introduction to great research
 • Seminar and discussion feel
 • Great lectures on understanding concepts and methods

May be difficult to understand material at first, but class is all about breaking it down

Life Science 10H

 • Doing the research in the lab
 • Gaining experience

May need to spend many, many hours in the lab

Not good if you are not able to invest the time

Is the minor worth pursuing?
Yes, opens opportunities and gives you valuable experiences

I took both.
5HA, the spots are quickly to be full. If you make efforts, you can get an A. It is a 4 unit class.
10H, is time consuming. If you make efforts, you can get an A. It is a 6 unit class. After 10h, I was able to find labs without the minor. It is 6 units, so if you can get an A, it helps your GPA. But you need to make time and efforts.
