biomedical research minors? any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys! I was recently looking into the biomedical research minor and wondering if any CCers could offer some advice or info about how the minor is...

What kind of lab do they place you in? How does it all work? Do you guys think its rewarding? just any info u have about it thanks!

you just take a few seminars and other classes. they don’t place you in a lab?

I think the class LS 10H helps get you started by providing laboratory experience, and then you can use that to apply to other labs.

Edit: LS 10H works with drosophila and different knockout experiments. which is tangentially related to biomedical research.

I was considering doing it. I know many friends who are in it (I’m pretty popular). If you are interested in it at all, I advise you sign up for the class Biomedical Research 5HA. Romero/Banerjee teach it every quarter I think, and I took it with them. Although Banerjee came to the class only once the whole quarter… It is one of the easiest A’s I ever got at UCLA and i think everyone got an A. The stuff you learn is pretty interesting as well. They also have one day of class devoted to telling you EVERYTHING about the minor. I actually missed that day due to a midterm time conflict lol.

My friend who graduated with the minor seemed to really like it. You are supposed to give a final presentation I think, but I don’t know much about how everything works. I think you actually have to apply to be in it and 5HA might be a prereq for the minor, so you might as well take it.
