What is it? What are some schools with good biophysics programs?

(Is it another word for biochem? Is it the physics department's attempt to attract more students?)

I've never heard of biophysics until now, but I would guess that Biophysics combines biology and physics (although I'm sure you already gathered that from the name) just like biochemistry combines biology and chemistry. There's also physical chemistry and chemical physics but I think those are only offered at the graduate level.

biophysics is not another word for biochem, as biochem is the chemistry of biological systems, biophysics is the physics of biological systems. Its an extremely up and coming field, with tons of research and funding. In many schools it's a concentration in either the bio or the physics department, or an interdisciplinary major. some schools with excellent programs include Princeton, JHU, MIT, UCB, and UCSB
