hi. im a sophomore in high school, and i was wondering if there were any quality colleges/universities that offer both a strong biology program, preferably biotech, and a strong choral program for non-majors at the same time?
majoring in both sounds like an attractive option, such as Oberlin College's "Double Degree" program, but i don't know how strong their biology program is...
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!

Not many universities have a biotechnology major- I don't think it's a very common major (I know Rutgers, in NJ, has a Biotech major). However, some universities with a biology or biological/biomedical engineering program have a biotech minor.

Biotechnology is just the application of technology to biological systems. Basically there is no reason to major in biotechnology a major in biology or biomedical engineering would allow a job in biotechnology. The latter probably being more appropiate.

Any number of majors can provide good preparation to work in the biotechnology field. You don't need to limit yourself to biomedical engineering (in fact, that would set you up for employment in biotech's ugly sister, medical devices). Microbiology, molecular bio, cell bio, genetics, chemistry, biochem. All great options for undergrad training to enter biotech. Research experience is, of course, paramount. Start it early and take ownership of your projects.

St Olaf has a great choral program, very strong sciences, and a fabulous new sciences building.

look at UCLA----good music school and chorus opportunities

You could also look at University of Rochester where you could take voice lessons with a grad student at Eastman if you are interested in that.

The biology program at Oberlin is excellent. See Overview - Oberlin College

How are your grades? How good is your voice?

collegehelp--my grades ride between a 3.2 and a 3.6 gpa, the most current being a 3.5... and my voice is pretty good: got me a lead part in this year's pops concert (musical run and performed entirely by choir students at our school)
