Can anyone that lives in Birnkrant go more in depth about the music rooms? Is it one big room where everyone practices, or are there individual rooms for one to practice their instrument (and if so, how many rooms are there). I'm a music major so this is something important to me.

I've never lived in birnkrant, but I think there is only one practice room (for one person unless you really want to share), equipped with a piano, stands, and some other random things. If you're a music major, you qualify to have a music sticker on your ID card and can reserve practice rooms in the PIC building to practice. But even so, I don't think you'll have a problem getting the birnkrant one a couple days a week.

There is one music room located off the main lobby with a piano, some stands and I think I saw a metronome in there once. It's not sealed off too well, so people in the lobby can hear you (which is really not a big deal, because it is a public space so they can't bother you or ask you to keep it down), and I'd say you could probably use it whenever you wanted. I know a couple music majors in Birnkrant and they've both said they never have a problem accessing it.

As ppenguin757 (I take it you like airplanes?) noted, there is one "main" music room adjacent to the entrance in the lobby with a grand piano and a few music stands. The room is NOT sound-proofed, despite the styrofoam-like panelling on the walls.

Honestly, it was rarely used. And if it was ever busy, I remember someone playing the tuba in the main TV and small conference rooms all the time. Finding a place to practice shouldn't be a problem at all for you.

Yeah its not soundproof. I remember practicing for 2 minutes and people outside saying "you are really good" or something and I was like what are you talking about LOL.

I think the room gets used more during the night?? It's pretty open though and the piano's new and its grand piano.. unlike when I used to live there.

How far away is the Music Practice and Instructional Building (whatever its called) from Birnkrant, and also from New/North? If its like 10 minutes on foot then it wouldn't really matter having a practice room in Birnkrant.

It's maybe 7 minutes on foot? It's probably between Birnkrant and Parkside and I can get to Parkside in 12-15.

If i am not a music major at USC, can i still use the practice rooms mentioned above? If so or if not, where is the best place to practice guitar? are there other practice rooms? what about rock bands, is there a place for them to practice?
