I was thinking about having a Mrs. Fields birthday cookie cake delivered to my son on his birthday, but I'm not sure how that would work with the mail delivery system at Elon. Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's our first birthday apart and mom is feeling the pain:(

You can only have packages delivered the regular way (to the mail center) as far as I know. I sympathize. My son has a sept birthday and I looked into doing something similar at the time when he was a freshman, At one time you could order a cake from food services at Elon if a friend could pick it up, but I think they discontinued that.

In my son’s case, his new roommate went to one of the dining halls and used MANY swipes on his meal card to buy a whole cake and had the people in his suite sing happy birthday. I am sure the kids in your son’s dorm will do something to mark the occasion.

I sent a rice krispie style “cake” decorated with sprinkels & put a candle with it & some cash. Gave my D the heads up to go check the mail- she was thrilled & shared it with her friends I don’t thinkg any b-day singing was done but the sentiment was sent. Rice krispies ship very easily too b/c they are so lightweight.

I called the catering department at the cafeteria last December and they made an awesome cookie cake for my daughter’s birthday. They asked for her cell phone number and texted her to let her know she had a perishable surprise in the cafeteria. It was chocolate chip and large enough to share with at least 4 of her friends.

Be gentle in your responses please :)

I was thinking about a little surprise visit and taking out 5 friend for nice dinner???

cmariel - that is fabulous! I may try same- thank you for the idea.

samtalya - not sure about the surprise visit idea - I would tend to think not - but you know your son and how he would react better than anyone here.

The birthday was a success thanks to all the great kids at Elon. They took him out to dinner and everyone in the hall sang Happy Birthday when they got back. They all shared the cookie cake I sent. Elon kids are a special group.

Cookie cake has been received! Thanks for the great suggestion.
