Birthday Deliveries in the Dorms

My son will bill turning 18 in a couple weeks and I'd love to send him balloons or a cake. He'll probably hate me for it, but tough! Does anyone have suggestions for a local bakery/florist that can do this and secondly, how does a delivery like this work in the dorms - he's in Harrington.

Thanks!

This is really cool. I know people who got them.

I remember last year seeing on the UD website that you can order a birthday cake (or one of those big cookies) from dining services. I couldn't find it on their new website. You could call dining services and find out if they still provide that service. There is also Bing's Bakery on Main Street (BING's Bakery | A Delaware Bakery Main St Newark, Delaware%5DBING's">http://www.bingsbakery.com/))). I can't vouch for either one, though, since I haven't bought anything from either one. Good Luck!

My son is turning 18 soon and I called the school to see if you could order a cake and they said they do not do that any longer.
I am trying to find out some type of cookie cake or cake to have sent to him... ???

Doughboys in LA ships cakes and they are yummy.

Fairytale Brownies, Gourmet Belgian Chocolate Brownies

These are the best! I like sending the Sprites or Morsels because they're smaller and the kids can spread the wealth with more friends!

I forgot about Occasions > Birthday - they're right on Main St and ship - don't know if they deliver.

momof2ny, no wonder I couldn't find anything on the UD website about the birthday cakes. Thanks for finding out for us! If anyone uses a Newark bakery, please let us know how it works out for you.

Hi. We were recently in Newark and on Main Street there was a place called Sweet-N-Sassy Cupcakes. My son had one and said it was great. They make all kinds of designs including birthday and they deliver on campus and around UD campus for free. They have a website, it is SAS Cupcakes - Welcome. I hope this helps. Happy Birthday to your son!

Wow - Now we find out! D's birthday is today, and a UPS cookie delivery was sent back because no one was in the dorm room to accept. We'll do better next year! Thanks.

I try to never send anything UPS/FEDEX to UD. I've never had a problem with the USPS, they have some sort of arrangement with the postal service. The RA can get whatever it is from the mailroom so things don't get sent back.

I finally got some answers about cakes and deliveries. Herbrokemom is so correct - do not send anything via UPS or FedEx ONLY USPS. Those items sent that are not deliverable within 2 days are sent to the distribution center outside of town and it's quite a car ride to pick them up. After 7 days they are returned to sender.
As to cakes, UDel is still offering cake/giant cookies - here's the link

Along with that, SAS does deliver (in person) to the dorms for a $2 charge - they need 24hrs notice.
My son's RA was so helpful and even offered to pick up a cake or balloons anywhere in town and deliver them himself!

Oh my goodness, I am SO grateful for the wonderful info here! I took the advise and ordered cupcakes from SAS, and a YouDee Gram for my daughters birthday - everything was perfect and we had a wonderful day! YouDee was adorable - we arranged for him to come early so the whole dorm was asleep, but our daughter and her boyfriend and my husband and I all got pics with him. She was really thrilled. I ordered cupcakes for her whole floor and since everyone was still asleep, we just put them out in the hallway and by the time we returned for lunch they were all gone and everyone was up and wishing our girl a "Happy Birthday." We couldn't have been more pleased. Thanks to everyone for the great gouge.
