D- freshman-19- next Friday-I live nearby but am treating her like she is away- offered to take some friends to lunch /dinner but I keep getting the I don't know if anyone will be around-game is on Saturday- ideas so far- netflix gift subsxcription- any other ideas from those of you who have done this before

Plan to take Her to Lunch, tell her anyone who is free is welcome to join you.

When you pick her up for lunch, bring a homemade cake (in disposable pan) for her to share with friends/dorm mates for an evening snack. Don’t forget festive paper plates/utensils.

Netflix streaming is a Great idea.

If she doesn’t have one yet; take her to the bookstore for a school hoodie.

You could try to get together with her this weekend, and then, mail a “care package” timed to deliver by her birthday that she can open with friends. Goodies to share, fun jewelry or accessories, slippers, a dvd (with a note about the subscription), cute trendy scarf, etc. Stick little personalized notes with funny reasons for the selected item. (I sent my D such a pkg for her b-day, and on a facial scrubber thing, I put a sticky note that said “For when the going gets rough.” On 1 bag of candy, “Brain food”, and on the second bag “More brain food because we know you’ll be brilliant!”
Your D will feel like she is away getting a package, it will be fun to involve her friends on their own time table, and it will be a b-day experience like none she has ever had before that you contribute to.
