I am a rising junior who attends a semi-competive private catholic school in nyc. My schedule is as follows:

AP U.S. History
Chemistry Honors
English Honors
Pre-Cal
Gym
Latin 1
College Credit French IV (somewhat like AP French)
Church History.

I also plan on self-studying: AP World History, AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP Comparative Government and AP Psychology.

I also play varsity soccer and varsity softball among various other activites.

Does this appear to be too much work? I know that this is somewhat of a dumb question to ask but I am curious for other people's opinion. I fear that I may burn out although I do not think that I will.

P.S.

I plan to apply to colleges such as: UPENN, Boston College, University Of Notre Dame, Dartmouth, Skidmore, Tulane, UNC-Chapel Hill, UMichigan, Mount Holyoke, Smith and University of Wisconsin - Madison.

you slow the earth's rotation so that one complete turn takes at least 60 hours instead of the current 24.

Can one REAL person achieve ALL of these goals? Being a superachiever one just one front (academic, athletic, community service) is one thing, but being a superachiever on ALL of these fronts is an extremist agenda.

Self studying all those APs sounds really hard...the rest appears do-able at least. WHAP and the two AP govts (at my school at least) are some of the most intense APs offered.

Self-studying for four AP courses seems like a bit much to me. One or two seems more reasonable to me given the rest of your schedule.

Keep in mind:
-Do you want to have a social life?
-Do you want to play either soccer or softball in college?
-Make sure you have time to do other things you're interested in (clubs, etc.) especially given some of the colleges you're looking at.

i would not self study for ap world. too much to read and too many random facts to memorize for a credit most colleges dont give. same with ap government and ap psych. look if the colleges you want to go to give credit for these tests, and what grade you need. if you need 5s for credit, or they dont give credit, i wouldnt waste my time taking the test. also, some colleges dont give credit for aps, just put you in a harder class. i wouldnt like to be in a harder class if i havnt taken the easier level because the lack of background info will hurt the GPA. if your school doesnt offer many APs, you dont need to self study. you can take CC classes (but ones your school does not offer. do not take a CC class instead of an AP class).

that being said, you can do it. you will probably get 3s (possibly 4s) because you are trying to self study so much in combo with sports and school.

Figure at least an hour per course (perhaps more because as venkater noted some of these courses have a good deal of random facts that just need to be learned by rote memorization) a day if you want to do your self-studied courses any justice and factor in what time you're already committing to school and sports (but up it because it's junior year) and think about how much time your clubs eat up. If you have time to sleep and eat enough to do your body justice then go for it.

Objectively though, it looks like you're stretching it, sweetheart. Maybe drop a couple self-studies and pick them up during the summer when you can absorb the material better?

slow the earth's rotation. if you manage that, you won't have to do all that stuff to get into your dream college. just brag that you managed to change something thats billions of years old.

Thats not that bad...I'm gonna be a junior too and I'm planning on attending Notre Dame. My schedule is as follows:
AP Chemistry
AP Language Arts
AP US History
Honors Pre-Cal
Choir
Spanish II

I also do dance, (3 times a week) piano(1-2 times weekly), voice lessons(once a week), musical theatre(3-6 times weekly), Confirmation Classes (all day Sundays) and I'm involved with FBLA, JSA, Catholic Club, NHS, and I'm the president of my choir.

I also have a part time job and I volunteer at my Church 2-3 hours weekly, my local library 2 hours a week, and I serve on my Mayors teen council.

but I also never have free time so it just depends on how you want to spend your year.

hmm ... none of our opinions really matter ... how did you do as a soph? was your schedule OK? is this junior schedule a lot more? Everyone is different and can tolerate (or thrive) on different levels of being busy ... what has worked for you so far?

My sophmore courseload was decent not as heavy as my junior year is going to be but I had a 3.8 uw GPA which I know would be below average here. I think I'll be fine and basically if I feel that its not working I don't have to take the test. Thanks for all the replies :)
