I'm I doing to much?..

I'm gonna be a senior in 09-10... and i feel i might be over doing everything..

I go to a medium size school (300 in my class), in Texas.. well my school dosent offer a lot of classes.. and they wouldnt even allow self-study till this year.. so my senior year is gonna be my hardest.. tell me what you think

My Schedule
AP Government/Honors Economics
AP Biology
AP Calculus (the class is AB now.. but if we get a good teacher i could take BC)
AP Eng Lit
Honors Spanish III
Band (Double Blocked)
Debate IV

My Extracurriculars-

Debate: Captain, State Debater, I do like 3 Speaking Events with that also... i go to every tournament (about 12-14 next year)

Academics (UIL, its the Texas thing):
Social Studies
Current Events
Debate
Persuasive Speaking

Band:
Hold two officer positions
State Level Band
Hoping to be a State tuba Player next year

National Honor Society:
Hoping to be an officer

On top of that Im self-studying AP Comparitive Politics, AP Psych, and AP Human Geography, THEN, i plan on taking some online courses (already have to take BCIS due to no room in my schedule), probably AP European History (offered by NUVHS), and maybe some neat classes like Intro to Journalism, or like Sociology... cause i cant afford to travel and go to big summer programs... and the online stuff will most likely just be summer, but idk

and i have a part time job....

and i plan on doing a lot of community service

Am i doing too much?

Only you know what is too much. :(

Alot depends on your teachers too…at my school AP Bio is really easy and AP environmental science is really hard…because of the teacher

hmmm yea but i mean idk if ill be able to do all of this… then i also feel like it might be a waste… cause idk if with my grade i can get into the college i want to get into to… idk…

It won’t be a waste.

Depends on your class rigor… If its a joke, then just do it. If its seriously going to challenge you, then drop it.

well the bad thing is… AP gov, AP lit, and AP calc… all three teachers left/got fired this year… so… idk the teachers or their style

Ooh… are you a gambler ;)?

Yes, you are doing too much. Forget about the online courses. Wait and take them in the summer or something.

Those self-studied AP classes aren’t very hard, but they might just be overwhelming. I suggest taking comparable courses in the summer prior to college.

What you neglected to list was all of the senior stuff you will be doing this year-- applications, essays, college visits, scholarships, etc. You need some free time to do those or it will bite you badly.

The online courses are for this summer… and im applying in August, ill have all my college stuff (except SAT Subject Tests and retake SAT or ACT) done before classes start… The online courses would be to help show my willingness to learn, i would take classes not offered at my school that interest me… scholarships (i have time for this, tis not that time consuming), i cant visit anymore of my prespective colleges… i like in south texas and im poor… i cant fly to NYC or Boston…

well to me your schedule is easy take your schedule and add 4 college courses online ontop of that and you totally have my senior schedule… well i would be very happy to have your senior year load… would you like mine??? lol :)

I would drop AP Bio and those online classes, but that’s just me

How the heck will you be done applying by August? Many colleges don’t open up applications until late, late August/early September. Plus, you will be applying for scholarships all year, I promise.

I avoided applying to so many “elite” schools because of kids like you.

That’s a decent schedule. I’d suggest not to self-study for those AP tests – maybe one, but with the other tests to study for, do you really want to have to learn new material? And only take one online course.

I’m concerned that you think your work will be wasted if you don’t get in to your top choice. If you take pride in your school work and limit your other activities to things you enjoy, then you shouldn’t feel like it was all a waste(even if you end up in community college).

biogirl- man i would love your schedule :P

Steven- Do you have any justification as to why??

romani- I said in August, not by August, besides Im only applying to the oneson my schools list, ill get 100% on my fasfa anyway

sigurrs- ummmm… that dosent make any sense, the reason im asking if im doing to much is because all of this stuff interests me (well not community service)… i love learning new things and challenging myself beyond what my school offers… also, im not able to win big school awards or get the one spot summer camps like Boys State… cause theres 2 people in my grade (Principals son, and Superintendents son) they get everything…

Josh- I do really want to, and i agree im not gonna take AP Europe online, i dont need that AP… I’ll technically be self-studying but with a friends friends and classmates, so it wouldnt be that bad

Choklit- These are the things i like to do (except comm service… well it depends), and I already have an in at A&M in College Station (10% of class thing in Texas), however like 99% of the kids at my school i want to apply and go to competitive schools… I’ve just been doing what I love since 9th grade (not a lot back then) and this year I was afriad I wanted to do to much… after i posted this i got and accepted an invite to our competitive academic math team (for those of you in TX, UIL Math), not because i thought i needed to… because i LOVE to compete, (this does not require much work) i am doing Current Events, Math, Social Studies, Persuasive Speaking, (then these do)- Band and Debate… cause i love them… however, i dont want to spend my life without the best thing i could get and thats a degree from as prestigous school as possible

Your schedule isn’t too bad, but I would reconsider self-studying all three of those APs. If any, self-study Psych.

kool, ty water

what do you mean by 100% on your fafsa? Do you think you’re getting a full ride because your EFC is 0? If so, you really need to educate yourself on financial aid. All an EFC of 0 guarentees you is a pell grant.
