gigabit ethernet...

What happens if they DO catch you? Say you were dl'ing a random movie, like Watchmen. What's their process? First strike slap on the wrist? or straight up we'll-take-you-to-court-or-you-pay-right-now? or expulsion?

i've sometimes been hitting direct dl sites for music so it's legit but I'm just wondering.

i know that my friend had to meet with the dean of students..got his internet suspended for a while. i think that's all that happened.

I have downloaded about 6gb of anime over the past months through torrents. I think anime is less of a risk though, unlike U.S. distributed material.

So UCLA has crappy policies? I know that my friends at berkeley are using DC++ and are protected by the school because outsiders aren't allowed to look at whats being shared, nor does the school investigate or seemingly care.

Another reason to choose Cal? haha. (not sure about UCLA but so far after 3 pages this is the seeming consensus).

From what I know, UCLA does not monitor, but if a company finds out that UCLA students are downloading illegal things, they will tell UCLA and UCLA will comply by giving the information.

Anime should be fine. My roommate and I downloaded like a TB of anime just bc the connection was there. Movies got us caught though. NBC found out we were downloading some of their movies and UCLA basically slapped us on the risk. The person who registered the router had to sign a form saying we would not download illegal material.

anyone know of any other direct dl sites for songs? not necessarily the newest songs running, just mp3s in general. i've had some recommendations on jimmyr.com and beemp3 thus far.

i hate having to playlist everything here and mass torrenting back home.

I used to use Ruckus and just rip off the DRM, but Ruckus is down now. Skreemr is pretty good too.

I generally download about 5-6 gb per week and have not gotten caught as of yet(2 years). Just be smart(megaupload, private torrents) and use direct downloads or something.

haha yeah i meant kb/s! no wonder something didn't sound right...

yeah i guess the people who have been getting caught are just really unlucky, because i've been downloading on campus for awhile too, and i even leave my torrents on overnight sometimes. so it's a hit and miss.

The RIAA has stopped prosecuting students at Universities and other individuals that download, they're targetting uploaders now, but they finally stopped their ridiculous tactics.

^
What's your source?

and theres no such thing as a "private" torrent..

There are private trackers though.

Ya, I meant private torrent trackers, like waffles and What.cd

How would they be able to tell which of the three (or more) roommates/suitemates actually did the downloading though?

You sign on with your user ID when you first log onto the network, so it registers your MAC address

stay away from torrents.. you can stream from a lot of websites and i personally use megaupload (M>R)
clubbox is a nice alternative. lots of stuff and it's basically p2p but it's safer cuz you're not exposed.

mmmmm heres a website for all you leeches out there.
Daily Rapidshare Premium Accounts

ya, i know, you probably just jizzed in your pants.

(use IDM btw, it works wonders)

how does the above link work? and i was wondering if it is safe to use things like jdownloader

jdownloader is just a download manager so it’s fine

awesome thanks, im having trouble streaming old seasons of entourage so decided to just get it lol
