Anyways, my question is:
I already took 70 units in my community college, which is the most I can transfer to UCLA. However, since I am not likely to afford the summer school in UCLA, should I take one or two more philosophy course(s) at my CC to satisfy the Ethics requirement? Is that going to work, provided that I can transfer at most 70 semester units?
I guess the main reason why I want to take it is for the CPA exam requirement instead of getting credit for that class at UCLA.
Ethics on that sheet isn’t a ucla requirement for graduation, its a cpa requirement, right? So the cpa board won’t care where you took it or if ucla gave you credit for it. It will be part of your academic record, and there doesn’t seem to be any rule that they be taken at a 4-year college.
As a side note, if you take more than 70 units at a CC you can still use the excess at ucla to meet ucla requirements.
If you want to get your CPA, you can finish what you don’t have through CC. It all counts the same. Most people I know ended up taking online accounting courses and BS courses through CC during their time here to hit the 225 unit requirement and also because it is a lot easier.
Even if you graduated short on accounting units, you could finish it up through easy intro accounting classes through somewhere like SMC online, which would count towards the 45 units. To hit 225, you can take anything, including underwater basket weaving and wine tasting at a different school.
@CSB111 Thanks again for replying to yet another post of mine!
For the 45 accounting units, you can still take it at a college? So if you take more intro accounting, wouldn’t that be repetitive with the Mgmt 1 & 2 and other classes you take at UCLA?
Say, what are some of the classes that will be counted towards 45 accounting units at SMC? I see some classes that are CSU transferable only, but then again, since it is a CPA requirement, it does not matter even if ucla does not recognize it?
@davedavid No it does not matter if UCLA recognizes it or not. When you apply for the CPA, you submit all your transcripts from all schools. From what I’ve been told from people I know, you could essentially take Intro Accounting at a bunch of different CCs and they’d all count as units towards the 45 unit accounting requirement. For the ethics requirement, say you took Biz Law at CC, and took Biz Law again at UCLA, you’d get credit for both classes.
But you can knock out all your accounting units at UCLA as well, without having to do this, but it’ll pack your schedule up and it is a bit tough to get into the classes initially, especially if Litt is teaching. I’m two classes short of my accounting requirements if I was to get my CPA (which I’m not), and I’ve still got a year left. So I wouldn’t worry too much.
@CSB111 I see… I will look into it.
I have one more question if you don’t mind me asking, lol. Since you only have two more classes you need to take to sit for the exam, what makes you not want to go for it and obtain a license? Do you not like the lifestyle of accountants or anything like that?
I was never interested in doing Accounting to be honest, I’m passionate about Finance/Econ, and have always been against doing accounting as a career with the exception of other things not working out. It was more of a backup. If what I’m shooting for doesn’t work out, I have Big 4 Accounting and a CPA to fall back on, but it’ll be my last resort.
I still need 225 units though, so I’d have to hassle getting 7-10 more classes online through CC to hit 225, which is another reason why it isn’t on my radar. Too many hoops to jump through at this point.
