BJ vs Max P

I’m deciding between the two dorms at the moment. I’m mostly deciding on the social aspect of each dorm. I know generally that Max P is more “typical college experience” while BJ is more Uchicago, but I was wondering if anyone could be a bit more detailed on this? I’m an introvert, but I do want to make a good amount of friends and have a roommate (I would want a double in BJ).

This thread might be useful:

One difference is that BJ has community bathrooms while Max would have Jack-n-Jills (4 to a suite).

Hmm yeah I wrote a lot of replies in that other threads so obviously I’d recommend you read them but to specifically answer your question, you’ll still be able to make friends in BJ. BJ tends to have very strong house culture so people within the houses get very close. People are pretty social even if they are mostly in singles. And there are doubles which you can still get. Max is kinda a mystery to me this year since North has shifted the social dynamics but BJ always got the kind of people that were really enthusiastic about the school, religiously researched UChicago and (also) tend to post a lot on the class pages.

^ Yes to the above. My D is in BJ and in a single and is an introvert but still has lots of social stuff to do. She has developed a tight knit of friends that are in each other’s rooms, go out to Chinatown for dinner and hang out in coffee places. They even venture into the city occasionally too. There is a great house culture there. Part of why she chose that dorm over the newer ones.

Sidenote, If I apply for a double as my #1 preference, will I get one in BJ? I signed up right after getting in on December 19th, so it is just really a question of 2nd,3rd, or 4th years napping all of them.

Upperclassmen pretty much don’t take doubles in BJ unless they’re exceptionally large or have a private bathroom.
