Can a student, former student or parent comment on the academic rigour of Blair Academy? How does it compare to a HADES school?

Our experience is only with Blair and cannot speak of HADES school. Academics at Blair is rigorous. Students cannot hide from doing their work or understanding the subject matter. The classroom settings are small groups with the students sitting in a conference like table. They are expected to participate and express their opinions. As you can see, sitting in a conference type table, there’s really no one to hide behind and if you didn’t do you assignments or understand the subject, you are pretty much expose. Other classroom setting are your traditionally desks setup. Again, class size is small.

With that said, the teachers are always there and willing to work with the students outside of the classroom. So it will be up to the student to seek help from the teachers. This in part is a maturation process that the student will go through going to a boarding school. Being independent and understanding they control their academic outcome, will help them.

We had two children that attended Blair and we are extremely happy in the ways they were prepare for college.

We are anxiously waiting to hear from Blair for our last child. March 10 can’t come soon enough.

Hope this helps.

My friend is applying to Blair and he hasn’t received the login.

Blair’s academic rigor is very high. I attended Blair in the 1980s and it was an excellent school then, but over the last 10 years in particular its academic profile has risen substantially. Our college placement results so far this year give a good idea of the current state of academics at Blair; 11 of our kids to the Ivy League Early Decision alone and many, many to other top tier schools including Stanford, Wesleyan, West Point, Naval Academy, etc. Having said all this, Blair remains very supportive of its students, is often described as “nurturing” (this is true) and there is a wider range of academic talent (with some great kids that are solid students, but not superstars) than is typically seen in the HADES group of schools. Hope this description is helpful. I could have attended other schools, but I chose Blair in some measure for its combination of solid academics and nurturing, family-like environment. That was true in the 80s, and even more so today given Blair’s rapid rise in academic quality over the last decade.

Our daughter just mentioned that she received her login email from Blair today. You can view the decision on line at 12:01am on March 10.

Best of luck!
