Overhead a group of high school juniors discussing need to blog about their extracurricular activities, in order to impress admissions committees at top tier schools. Is this true? My DS avoids social media, concerned about dangers of online footprints and info published impulsively. Will this be a handicap during the application process?

…I don’t see how that would help. What is writing you EC resume on a website going to do? Or do you mean blog as an extra curricular?

Good question. I don’t know if the kids meant blogging as an EC. Your reasoning makes good sense. Thanks.

So many people blog that it’s difficult to stand out. Usually blogs affect very little change and only serve as outlets, or journals. I do not want to discourage you from blogging if writing is your thing, but unless your blog happens to attract an enormous followerbase, I wouldn’t recommend it.
It also depends on content. Running a blog that’s entirely devoted to cat pictures isn’t going to say much, but maintaining a popular blog with news and current events and commentary might turn out to be impressive.
