Seeing as I have today and tomorrow to write several essays, I'm considering dropping Rice from the list to make it easier (I don't like the school that much anyways). I'm wondering whether this could hurt me at other schools because Rice calls them and tells them that they received recommendation letters and SAT scores but no application or supplement.

Rice won't care. Plenty of students start applying to schools and then change their minds. At most, Rice may send you a postcard letting it know what parts of your application are missing. They'll do that in case your app was lost in the mail or something similar.

What a coincidence - my friend has the exact problem. He doesn't want to apply to Bates anymore. I think u are fine not applying to rice given that you already got in Notre Dame. My friend is in a very bad situation. He has bad SATs but does not want to apply Bates - a bad move.

I don't think Rice will even look at your file unless they've got the Common App and the supplement from you, so they probably won't even care. You might considering calling them and withdrawing your app, just in case, if that puts your mind more at ease. It couldn't hurt.

LOL: as if Rice doesn't have better things to do than to go through and sift all the incompleted files, then find out where those kids DID apply, and then go and initiate actionable misdeeds by sabotaging them.

Can U imagine this scene at the Harvard admissions office morning staff mtg?

"OK guys. Thanks for all your hard work these last few months assembling our next freshman class. We're almost done. We have only one more thing to consider and it's coming via special courier from Houston. Rice's "incomplete applications list" is going to be arriving this morning. Make sure you compare our admitees list against it and we strike all the names that match Rice's list, OK? This will open up more spots so we need to refer to our secondary list. Have a good morning people."

I'm just having some fun. Relax though. Incomplete files happen all the time. Good luck w/the rest of your apps & essays

Thanks for the replies. You've all set my mind at ease.

I guess I got a little paranoid, partially because I dropped from 17 to 5 schools over the past three weeks and I'm nervous about rejections across the board.

Heh, I dropped Providence, Georgetown, Muhlenberg, and UPenn because I was too lazy to do their applications (writing page 317 of biography = hell no).

My thoughts too lol! I dropped UPenn today (now 10 schools instead of 11) because I was turned off by their essays and it didn't seem like a fit

Hah why would they care about an "incomplete application" - don't they get the message that if you've submitted nothing you're not applying anymore?

My counselor sent all my stuff out to Northwestern but I just didn't have time for the application. I feel like I really would've liked the school, everyone tells me that, but I haven't visited and I'm trying not to think about it. Obviously it wasn't meant to be if I'm not that excited/committed to doing the application, haha.

I dropped Syracuse. I decided it was waste of money anyways since I don't want to go there. They have my SAT score report, counselor rec, transcript, teacher 1 rec, teacher 2 rec. So basically...everything but my application and payment. lol.
I think all they'll do is just notify me that they're missing my application. And if I don't respond, they'll just throw my file away.
