Hey... I'm an ID applicant, and I'm kinda bummed out cuz I think I may have been pretty stupid on the Rice application. I think my chances would be decent (I have solid test scores, gpa, ecs, etc.), but for the question that asks which other colleges you are applying to... I made the stupid mistake of being honest and listed out all my schools (including top tiers schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Upenn, Duke, Brown, etc.). I guess there's nothing I can do about it at this point, but just so I know how to treat these types of questions if I run into them on another app, what's your take on this? Does listing out all those schools really turn off the adcoms?

wait i was being honest too..... does it really screw you over if yuo do that.... i thought they said it doesn't affect your admission

"I made the stupid mistake of being honest"

haha

that cracked me up.

don't worry about it!

I'm sure they don't let that influence their decision.

I doubt that it matters. I told the truth on mine and still got in. The funny thing is that I changed my mind on all of the schools that I listed and I did not apply to any of them.

Rice and other schools ask for your list of colleges so that they will know what their "competition" is. It will not influence your admissions chances. Really!

haha... all right well that's good news.

BUT... if I get rejected... I'm still using this as an excuse!

o_O

The best policy is honesty! :) Besides, many of those schools I listed, I never finished my application (because I found out my Rice decision) or changed my mind. Don't worry about it--You did not blow your chances by being honest! :)

anxiousmom is right, being honest won't hurt your chances at admission. Rice is very interested in what their "peer" schools are and in raising their national profile. The best way for them to do that is by asking students that apply to Rice what other schools they applied to, and then after May 1st asking students at Rice what schools they chose it over and students who don't go to Rice what schools they chose instead. All selective universities have massive databases of information like that correlated with gender, major, you name it.

Since you were admitted under ED, are you allowed to apply anywhere else?

i did ed, and i put down that i applied to all the ivies, which i did, as well as stanford, duke, NWern, etc. and i still got in!
