For all you genuis, sat-obsessed, people please explain!
1. This is practice test two, section three, page 525. Numbers 7 and 8.

Haha, I lied. I also have a writing question. This was rated as an "easy" but I still can't figure out why it's wrong.

No one objects to his company, even though he has made insulting remarks about almost every member of the group, (when) he is a remarkably witty man.

the part in parenthesis is wrong.

for the writing... when should be because

is E. The only 2 that really make sense are D and E, but the passage isnt trying to prove anything about the length of his career, instead it is characterizing his style. No matter what his age, he always wrote this way.

This one is C because the people are worried that if authors explore the humanity of Black leaders, bad things will happen. The author of the passage suggests that doing this will make it seem as if heroes have to be perfect, or beyond reproach, which they aren't. The belief, however, promotes the idea that they are beyond reproach.

for the writing question, the "when" is wrong because, as ETS would put it, the use of the phrase 'when' is an error in logical reasoning and diction. The second part of the sentence suggests an explanation for the first, so therefore, a term such as "because" is more appropriate. . .

yes, as "fewfdsagdsag" says, the when. It should be because. If you take out the part in the commas, the when does changes the meaning of the sentence.

lol twinkle, i also missed that writing question, i think the "when" should be changed to "because" because it gives a reason

and i also missed that critical reading ques. hehe, we're quite similar :)

I appreciate your thorough answer son of liberty. I have a question, if someone is so perfect, does that mean he is beyond reproach? as in, not being able to be criticized?
and for u writing genuises, where can i get a book with "proper usage"? or is it just common sense to u guys

i used rocketreview to help boost my writing scores, before i thought it was common sense but many people use incorrect grammar when they speak so using common sense or hearing what's right usually won't help you. or atleast thats what rr says hehe

twinkletoes (lol your username cracks me up)... in cb logic, i think being perfect is being beyond reproach. because if he is perfect, you can't really criticize him, considering there isnt anything to be criticized.

for writing... i think just going through the cb writing sections will help you get a feel for the errors that are tested. if you want to learn some of the rules, i suggest picking up an old copy of barron's how to prepare for the sat2 writing. it's very comprehensive and will help you if you're not used to the sat-style grammar.

and once you do enough writing problems, you will notice that you use a lot of improper grammar in daily life
