pg417(29)
Contrasting with most other fifteenth-century rulers,
A B
portuguese kings could count onthe support of the aristocracy in
C D
any overseas ventures.

answers A, but why can't it be B(most other)

I appreciate all the help if you all are able to explain. Sorry for the screwed up letters i hate forum structures =( So just follow by the order they come in

I've numbered your questions from 1-4:

1 - The answer is "B" in the book. You numbered incorrectly in your post. However, the choice in your above post would be "A." The pattern IS "Either...OR" and not "Either...and." The term "either" signifies a CHOICE. Thus, "and" makes no sense in the sentence. It's probably an idiom...not sure. The fact that "either" = choice rings the bell for me.

2 - It is a parallel sentence issue. The pattern should be, "dancer, choreographer, collaborator."

3 - I think it's an idiom issue. I believe it should be "preoccupation WITH..."

4 - "Most other" is grammatically correct. A is the answer. Not sure what 'rule' A breaks though.

Forgive me if I've made any mistakes above.

4- It's A because it has to be "in contrast"

4 - So it should be, "In contrast with most other fifteenth-century rulers..." Correct?
