Blumberg Travel Fellowship

We just learned today that in addition to the Kahn Institute Fellowship for next year, my d. was just awarded a Blumberg Travel Fellowship. It's a neat thing, with Smith funding her to stay in Europe (actually, all of her work is in Italy) to continue research on a topic of her own choosing, and then make a presentation about it when she returns to campus in the fall. What she is researching is the development of "laude", a 15th Century Italian vernacular song form, sort of the bridge between medieval latin music and the later development of opera. Anyway, she gets to travel around some more, and won't get back home until mid June, and then has to return to campus early for Kahn meetings.

Sigh. She's all grown up! (they have a habit of doing that)

Mini,
Congratulations to your daughter. She seems like an incredibly accomplished young woman. I am sure she will have a wonderful experience next year. I think it is another example of the value-added education at Smith made possible by its financial resources and strong commitment to its core mission of providing the best possible education for women.

Congrats Mini.
