What can my D expect her class sizes to be like? She would be in the Engineering (BME) Honors University Honors. Are some large and some small? Are any 200 students to a class?
@mom517 - Her class sizes will vary. Introductory classes tend to be large, but the Department of Bio-engineering only had about 130 new Freshmen last year. So that is one factor. All Honors Seminars are limited to 20 students, but these are usually not Major core classes.
Each Department can offer Honors versions of their classes at their discretion. The do not offer Honors versions of all the courses they have. Any Honors classes offered will be generally limited to 20 students or less Every Honors Seminar and Honors class is not offered every semester
Here is a link that has all the courses that will be offered in Fall 2019. You can used this. along with your D’s 4 year plan to see what courses she can take.
Most of her intro stem classes (physics/calc/chemistry) will have lectures with 200+ students. Each of these classes have discussion sections which are limited to around 30-40 students. I’m pretty sure this is standard practice for most medium/large universities. All of these larger classes offer additional tutorial sessions which are free of charge. Your daughter would have access to the honors math classes which are limited to 25 students. Also the first year intro bioengineering class (bioe120) is limited to around 30 students. Both the required first year engineering Keystone courses (ENES100 and 102) are limited to 40-45 students. The honors seminars are limited to 20 students. Most of the bioengineering classes are limited to 30-35 students per section. She will be taking a lot of these classes starting her second year.
