I’m an RD applicant and listed BME as their first choice for a major. However, I’m not sure if this was the correct move. My goal is to become a practicing physician. Which major will best fit my goal?
First of all, remember that Case has a Single Door Admissions policy, so you can major in whatever you want. So if you said BIomed and you want to go with Cog Sci, you can just take Cog Sci classes instead. (If you wanted to do Nursing you have to let CWRU know ASAP though).
If you want to be a physician, then DO NOT major in nursing. Major in nursing if you want to be a nurse.
Otherwise, you can major in whatever you want as long as you take:
2 semesters of inorganic chemistry with lab
2 semesters of organic chemistry with lab
2 to 3 semesters of biology with lab
2 semesters of physics with lab
1 semester of biochemistry
2 semesters of English composition
1 to 2 semesters of calculus
1 semester of statistics
1 to 2 semesters of behavioral sciences
Also you need to be able to get a good GPA and a good MCAT Score.
So do you like Biomedical Engineering? Are you good at STEM? Will you be able to keep up your GPA?
Is Cognitive Science interesting to you?
Or perhaps Medical Anthropology? Chem Eng?
I would suggest that if you have interest in BioMed to start with that because it is easier to go from Bio Med to Cog Sci than the other (because of all engineering foundation courses you need to take).
