I am an international student and I will be applying for several schools later on this year for admission to 9th grade. Does anyone have any advice on what I should start doing...any study habits for SSAT, EC's, etc. My sports are arts are covered though. I really want this bad.....The schools I had in mind were:

Suffield Academy
Blair Academy
The Hotchkiss School
Lawrenceville Academy
Deerfield Academy
Kent School
Phillips Exeter Academy
Phillips Academy, Andover

I just love these schools but I think the one i want to go to the most is probably Hotchkiss...any would be fine though.

Ohh, I forgot....could you also tell me about the interviews

you should probably try getting an ssat tutor and if you cant just find a copy of an ssat practice book from princeton review or kaplan. Those help alottt and just practice the exercises in there and check them over. These are all really good schools. The interviews for the most part arent that difficult just be ready to have an intelligent conversation and know these things:

why you want to leave your country
why you want to go to "this" school
what your interests are (impress them)

pretty much just be open and prepared to talking about yourself and sound interesting but dont brag or seem arrogant. It's a conversation you'll do fine :)

they want balanced kids.

Good luck! First of all, you HAVE to do more research. If you want to get in these schools so badly you can't just rely on CC, since everyone probably did stuff differently.

These schools want personality and leadership the most. Honestly, from what I've seen here the SSATs don't play a big part of it at all. Don't obsess and make flash cards for it or anything, unless you actually don't know like 80% of the words/stuff on there, which isn't likely cuz you ARE applying to these schools. I studied for like, half an hour the morning before the test and that was it. I got a 99. Get a book or something and look over it. Don't stress over it- but don't cram before the test like I did! I think I just got lucky, lol.

ECs...hope you're either super amazing/dedicated in one or you're very well-rounded. You can't just start a couple ECs right now just to get into bs- that's cramming and it'll show. If you're dying to get in make sure to talk to department heads or send in portfolios.

The interviews...just be yourself. There isn't any secret. Like, I completely bombed all of mine except for Deerfield's, where the interviewer absolutely adored me. It's really up to your interviewer and how they see you. Stay confident.

I didn't try Hotchkiss so I can't help you there. Just show all of them you're passionate.

really, it depends on each person on what got them in.
for me, it was probably my interviews and essays.
be truthful in your interviews and essays... try to express who you are.
though i do want to say that your interviews aren't everything.
like, the schools i got postcards from... i got waitlisted at them.
so, don't freak out if you don't get a postcard or anything.
really, it doesn't matter.

make sure your teachers like you!!
also, when you give them the recs.. stick in a little something like chocolate or cookies...
and don't forget to say thank you!

don't stress out too much...
also, being on cc doesn't help too much.
so try not to be addicted while going through the app. process.
it doesn't help too much.

Do you need fin. aid? If so, being an international will not help. Sorry if that sounded a little harsh. But economic times are not good so the fin. aid acceptances are choosen very carefully.

no …no FA…
i changed up my list again
suffield
blair
kent
williston
milton
choate
hotchkiss
deerfield
lawrenceville
andover
thats my final 10 :)

if you are applying for the 2010-2011 school year, it is a little early to finalize your list. Do some more research – why those schools? What do you consider your safety/match and reach schools?
