Going through CC threads, I find little mention of boarding schools. How many people go to boarding schools? How do you think that affects of our college choices?

Especially in regards to ECs, I find you can be as involved as anyone in your school community, but have no time for the "normal" ECc (typical volunteering, clubs, etc.)
How do people work with this? What kinds of ECs are boarding school students on CC doing?

Boarding schools, like private day schools often make college admission at the top colleges more difficult. Anyone considering any top private high school needs to understand this. Kids sign up thinking it's the road to HYPS without realizing that everyone at those high schools want to go to these same colleges.

Then they find out seventy percent of the high school class are legacies at the top college, and the schools (especially boarding) produce lots of top athletes and that many classmates are very wealthy which is a hook in college admissions. Leaving those at the high school without a hook having a much smaller chance at the ivies and similar than had they stayed at their local public school.

I work with many people who send their kids to boarding schools. Most of the kids love the experience, especially at the top boarding schools, but college is the biggest concern.
