hi
I'm a new CC poster. I'm hoping someone (esp current BS students could help me out).

For 9 yrs I've been going to the same non-boarding private prep school (something like a "country day school" perhaps). Next yr I will be a senior. I have A/B grades, probably GPA of around A-. I've always liked math but lately I'm rather unhappy about the school's math program and how everyone is taught in the same way. The "possibility" of boarding school entered my mind b/c of this. Also, you may not understand what I mean, but I also feel like I might really enjoy a boarding school environment for it's academics & social life more than what I'm used to now. (My current school is very small compared to public schools.) My current school is pretty good, but I'm ignorant as I haven't been at any other school for long, and I feel I might personally enjoy being elsewhere more.
Basically I'm trying to decide whether to take the time to start exploring a boarding school for my senior year, or whether it would be too much long-term risk for not enough gain.

So, current BS students and everyone else: what thoughts or suggestions do you have for me? If you chose a boarding school, why did you and what BS are you at? What did you expect and was it what you expected? Is anything what you would've nvr expected? At what grade did you enroll at BS and what has been your experience so far? What was the search/enrollment process and how long did it take for you? Is there anything else I might want to know? I know these things are personal & subjective, but even if you're not a BS student, any advice you can give me would help.

Would you consider searching for a BS in a similar situation if you're about to enter senior year in the fall? I am getting pretty good grades right now, and I'm concerned about messing that up for college apps I'd submit in the fall if I do go to a BS where nobody knows me & I have to learn that school's culture from scratch.

what do you think??

I apologize if a similar question has been posted - I've been browsing and haven't found anything.
thnx!!

if you are going to be a seinor,
its to late to apply for your senior year because applications were due Janruary 15...
you could apply late,
but chances of getting in then are very slim...
unless, of course, you want to repeat a year or do PG...

schools rarely admit seniors, but you could repeat junior year at a boarding school.

It really depends on the school. A poster here got accepted to Andover, Deerfield and Choate as a Senior for next year.
It is late to apply, BUT....you could call around and see if the schools you are interested in have openings and would accept your application.
It would be difficult to enter as a senior and almost right away start the college process - actually you've probably already started that a little anyway.

good points guys, any current BS students have any insight? thanks

it's really late, there's barely any senior positions unless you're a recruited athlete. call the schools for more info.

Personally, if put in your position, I would not consider boarding school an option. First, it is very late as many others above have mentioned. If you start exploring schools, it's possible you get hopeful and attached to one. But the odds of you gaining admission is very slim. That being said, however, I do know a girl who applied late--in the early summer, was waitlisted, and was eventually accepted a couple of weeks before school started. Even if you were to get accepted though, I personally would stay in your current school because your school sounds decent (private prep school) and the transition into BS can be very tough, resulting in bad grades. And senior fall is one of the most important terms in terms of grades I think. Also, if you hold any leadership positions at your current school, it would also be to your disadvantage to go to a new school since their probably wouldn't be too many leadership positions available. Aside from the college stuff, I would stay because I would want to graduate with the friends I've been with for many years.

All of this is my opinion, what I'd do if put in your position. It's subjective as you mentioned it probably would be, but I hope it helps!

What are you doing this summer? Maybe you need an adventure of some kind...it's not too late to find a spot in some summer programs where you can live on a college campus and explore academic or athletic interests that your smaller school might not offer.
Another option is to stay where you are, blast through your college applications this fall and study abroad spring semester.

Didnt someone in another thread say that Exeter is still accepting?
