My daughter was wait listed @ all 4 schools where she applied. I knew it would be competitive, but quite honestly, I was surprised. Her SSAT total - 93 percentile, #1 in her class of about 350 students, several sports & extremely good at one of them. She also has other activities (school paper, mock trial, etc). All said that her interview went extremely well.

She does need a lot of aid (about 2/3 of costs). In the admissions process, only one of the 4 schools was forthright that aid can impact admission. My guess is that the large amount of aid needed was the deciding factor in her case. If aid does have a big impact on admission, I wish they would just be up front about it so that we could have avoid wasting the time (and money, because obviously, we don't have enough of it).

I suppose that it is much more competitive than I realized. I'm not sure how big of an impact legacy and connections are in the process. In any case, I'm extremely disappointed. I still think that these 4 schools would be great for her.

2 of the 4 schools are not going to the wait list. One of the 4 called and asked if we would accept if offered and seemed encouraging that we could hear back the same day (Monday). The call never came and they've been non-commital since. I'm not sure what is going on. They indicated that they are still waiting to hear from people - although it is well after the deadline??? Is it realistic to think that there is still hope for admission this late in the process?

I am not expert. But wait and see. prep school are building classes like colleges. So depending on what they need, they select. remember that these schools pay for maybe 40% kids who are on fin aid. So other than grades, other things are important too. Even if she does not make it for your daughter sake tell her it is a learning experience. be there for her and help her mature as a person. I know it is hard but that is all we can do. Good luck to you and her. :)

damn the waitlists. i was waitlisted at andover..my stats were worse than ur daughter's it must be more competitive this year because she sounds like she should've been accepted. good luck, stay on the waitlists and see how it pans out. although trust me even at a public school or private day school you can be very successful and go to a top tier college.

Everyone who made a waitlist this year...word of advice:

DON'T LOSE HOPE!

I know someone who was waitlisted a very prestigious boarding school last year. Three months later, they contacted her, telling her she had been accepted. She's currently attending that school and doing very well.

A great friend of mine didn't get into any of her top choices for boarding school. She got wait-listed at one of her first choices and rejected from the other. Last week she discovered that she will be attending her first choice, and she's just on Cloud Nine.

DON'T LOSE HOPE! It's still possible for your daughter to attend a great school.

i heard that st. paul's will also not be accepting any more waitlisted applicants. i think (maybe!) that choate is doing the same. don't take my word for the choate part.
