How many people died under Saddam Hussein's rule?

I'm just looking for a rough estimate (and maybe some links to articles). Is it in the hundreds of thousands, or does it reach the millions? I've only found one article so far from the NY Times, and it seems to put the figure between 500,000 and 1.1 million. Is this even remotely accurate?

"Saddam did not murder his own people. Saddam was a great ruler and a benevolent provider for his people. Saddam was the eptimoe of kindness and charity. All the lies about Saddam are invented by the US Nazi capitalist-whore media"

Ok. Stop bagging on Rhizome guys. Just because he says things that are anti-american (which happen to be much of the truth, but no one here wishes to accept it), doesnt make him a troll or one to be mocked and taken advantage of. People here really need to stop being so arrogant and closed minded.

Maybe, just maybe, it may be useful to listen to Rhizome's posts instead of blasting them.

have you actually read his posts or been involved in a conversation with him? Or are you just trying to defend something that you aren't involved in?

I do not find you funny at all.

Saddam Hussein was a horrible man and it wouldn't suprise me if that number would indeed go up to 1 million. Although, the U.S is the reason why he stayed in power during the 80s was because they were using him to fight Iran. When he stopped being any use to them in the early 90's they had to choose between Kuwait and Iraq, and they chose Kuwait. I read on a NY times article that 100,000 iraqis alone were killed due to American bombing during the 1st Gulf War.

I do not support Saddam Hussein at all, and I find it disgusting that you would assume that I do support him. He is no marxist and his actions have done worse to his country, yet alone the sanctions that were imposed on the nation.

Yes, I have read his posts Ameechee. Again, just because you don't like them or they do not reflect your opinions, does not mean that he is a troll. Its a message board. Grow up and stop mocking people via the internet.

Is he a troll? YES. I guess his constant personal attacks and cursing against any and all posters who disagree with him don't count as trollish behavior hmm?
