Wow

I saw that on my yahoo, too. I don't really know how I feel about it. I mean, they said it was going to happen...but, wow.

Granted, he killed people. We sentence criminals to death for less than what he did. But is it a wise move? I guess we'll see.

wow...wow..yeah i didnt know he was being sentenced to death till today...lol i dont really listen to the news...but my sisters bf was talking about it..hes in the navy....inteligence officer..usna '05 alumni. he was in iraq for a month from mid september to october for training..he was talking about it....

I won't lose any sleep, but executions in general are a barbaric practice.

Is there anyway that I can watch his execution on the web? I went to al-arabiya but they had nothing. Whats the web address of al arabiya english? Anyone?

exactly my sentiments. The truth is his death will not bring back anyone else. Why spill more blood in Iraq? Furthermore, I feel that this somehwhat validates what America has done in Iraq and could turn Sadaam into a martyr figure there.

And did anyone else notice it was by hanging? That seems so 18th century to me.

Tonight I shall wear white....because I am in mourning...that our country condones such barbaric practices...and let it be a public execution...on a holy day.

I hate the fact that ppl are putting this on the internet and giggling...ignorant fools.

"Dictator Who Ruled Iraq With Violence Is Hanged for Crimes Against Humanity " Isn't that ironic?

Aspen D: we call this retribution. Again, where can I watch footage of the execution on the web? Did anyone feel a sense of awkwardeness when hearing the breaking news that Hussein was dead? I got this slight chill...I mean that fact that he was perfectly alive and well yesterday and 12 hrs. later he's dead.

Im sure over the next day or two it will be available. I know US news networks wont be showing the actual video but they will be distributing it to arab media so look online if you want to see it

Im not sure how I feel. It sounds like there may have been some flaws handling the execution that will lead to problems. The actual choice to execute, thats their judicial system's opinion and i have no problem with it

it's retribution?! What on earth did he do to you? Okay, I'm not saying he was a good person, but the way we handled it was wrong. He did absolutely nothing to us to make us go off and do soemthing quite so inhumane to him. Bloodshed harbors and creates more problems...it never solves them. It's just a temporary solution...

I know! I admit I didn't really believe that they'd still hang people. it's pretty horrifying.

From a few of the stories I have heard about the Iraqi justice system under Saddam from my European History teacher (whose father was Iraqi and left just before Saddam took over), hanging is actually a step forward. Don't get me wrong - I definetely do not favor hanging over other, more humane (if you can say that) ways of killing a person - but this represents progress in the Iraqi system of punishment.

Also, I'm not sure if killing Saddam was the correct thing to do, but it was the punishment handed down by the Iraqi court of law.

Didn't they hang Nazis in Nuremberg?

if your going to hang him for his crimes....thats fine

don't do it on a FREAKING HOLY DAY

why didn't they hang him on Christmas? <---think about your reaction to what i just said

thats how i feel as a muslim

Executions suck in general, but he was a crappy guy. I think worse things are happening on our own continent than a brutal dictator who apparently killed thousands of people being hung himself (though I do agree it is rather 18th/19th/20th century). I don't know about you guys, and I know it's horrible, but if it were Bin Laden, I'd probably be joyful.

It seems pretty silly to me to think that it's not okay to kill Sadam Hussein when there are regular criminals in America (and I'm taking this from an American perspective) who are put to death. If you don't agree with the death penalty, it seems futile to worry about Hussein - a slaughterer of hundreds of thousands of innocent people - when there are better things to be working towards. At least we know he was guilty. :/ (I do agree that he may be turned into a martyr - only time will tell.)

Anyway, hanging's still an option in 2 states in the US (granted, with lethal injection as an alternative method), so it doesn't seem that bizarre to me.

right there with you on that Med786. It's Eid. My goodness.

That's so mean. He was killed?

I thought he should just go to jail or something.

The funny thing is, this execution is going to have absolutely ZERO impact to what's happening right now in Iraq. I mean, if the death of Saddam could bring peace and security to the present situation, then it'd be worth it killing him. Ironically, the aftermath of his execution will probably be filled with more discontent and civil warfare and sectarian violence in Iraq...

Besides, Saddam Hussein is simply the scapegoat of the middle east conflicts. It's George W. Bush and PM Tony Blair who should be brought to trial and face justice. Sometimes, things in today's world are just so weird and filled with non sense.
