Boise State v. U of Utah - Game Design Major from Cali

My son has basically two schools back east and two schools out west he is down to. It appears Boise and Utah are now at the top. Curious if any of you can talk of the differences. Main two issues: 1) Game design major; and 2) student life.

I worry the U is a bit too much of a commuter school. Curious what y’all can say about these two schools. Compare/Contrast? Likes/dislikes?

TIA.

Boise State is in the Mountain West conference so is more like Colorado State, Wyoming, Utah State (more casual, more western, more rural). Utah is in the Pac 12 (never heard it was a commuter school) and so is more like Colorado, Washington, Oregon (more urban, more fashion).

I’ve heard more about Utah in game design than Boise.

Just going by reputation, I’d pick Utah. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, Utah was one of the best schools for anything related to computer graphics, and they’ve leveraged that into a game design program that has a very good reputation. Reputation doesn’t necessarily mean good fit, though. It could be that Boise State’s program, which I know nothing about, is a better fit.

I never thought of Utah or any Pac-12 school as a commuter school.

U Utah is a reference for Game Design and it’s definitely not commuter. (Additionally, if that matters, their honors program is very good). Boise State is more rural and not really well-known, or at least, not at the level of Utah.
