I've been searching the web relentlessly for cheap, used textbooks. Every site I've come across has books that match PSU bookstore's used prices. My books are expensive because I am a science major and it is difficult to find decent prices. I am wondering if the "used" condition from PSU is like new? Or are most books obviously worn and marked?

The only problem my daughter found was even though they have a used price, they may not have it in stock. She checked used if available, but they sent her all new books.

I can’t comment on the condition of the used books, but wanted to say that my son was able to buy some of his used books from other students. By cutting out the middleman both the buyer and seller come out ahead.

Also, I’ve seen signs for renting books this year. I don’t know any details, but perhaps some current students do.

my daughter just rented books for the 1st time… there were 2 websites that she used. chegg.com and bookrenters.com. ( i think those are correct)free shipping both ways. For her needs it was great. rented 3 books for the price of 1 math book!. she receive them in just a few days, and the conditions are very good…hope this helps

The used books I saw at the bookstore were in pretty good condition, some were obviously worn, but others weren’t. They might not have the used for all of them. I went and bought my books from the Got Used Bookstore, check their online site. If you go to buy textbooks, you can pick the semester, department, class and section. You can have the books shipped to the store and you can pick them up there. The store is on East College Ave. They are generally a little cheaper than Penn State bookstore. Also I used Abebooks.com and they were very good. Hope this helps!
