Bored at home during the summer

I'm going to college this year, and I'm tired of spending 10+ hours in front of the computer everyday.
Now, before you tell me to get a job, I got one. Tell me to socialize-- I don't have that many friends. I want to attend random Meetup events, but I don't drive. I'm learning how to drive. I'm hitting the gym, going out with a few friends, but I don't want to exploit my dad, who drives me around. I want to volunteer, but again, no car.
I'm self studying some classes before going off to college, but I'm tired of sitting all day in front of the computer. WHat should I do?

Well you just threw anything social out the window…so I say build a toothpick sculpture. It needs to be a to least 3ft tall and 2 ft wide.

Go make something crafty that’s a complete waste of time, like this[/url”>Rookie » How to Turn a T-Shirt Into a Dress]this.

You should go to the movies, go out for walking. Trust me, I LOVE computers and spend most of time on them too lol.

You can volunteer without leaving home. You could offer to read and comment on college essays since you’ve been through the process. Or maybe there are online mentoring opportunities. I bet some kid would be glad to have the contact of another person.

You need a task, even one that you set yourself. A deadline. A lot of people would say “read the classics” but that might not be appealing. Can you learn some basic phrases in a new language?

My daughter was terribly bored one summer, then finally she made up her own schedule (she likes structure) – run, shower, do assigned reading, chill, eat, sleep, repeat. Kind of monotonous, but she said it was better than waking up each morning looking into the void.

I’m in the same situation as you. I have no car nor a driver’s license. I feel sad :frowning: I’m stuck at home. For one whole week I never been outside of my house. My friends prefer to stay home and play video games, my parents work to much, and there is no place to go within a walking mile distance. One more week, after that, I’m screaming.

Is there anything near by? Maybe just take a walk everyday, or bike ride. Find cool hiding spots in your neighborhood and write or paint or something. If you can, go somewhere where you can spend a full day (mall? bookstore? etc.). Good luck!

It’s not much, but I go for a walk in the morning and a jog in the afternoon everyday. Definitely keeps you busy and gives you something to look forward to.

^pretty much the only reason why I wake up to go to school.

I’d probably be chronically truant at an all-guys school . . .

Where are you applying to?!

random side-note - I noticed that a lot of my friends are “models” at Hollister, et. al. What is a model? Are they photographing 17 and 18 year olds?

A local hardware store… I’m very handy, I can look a nut or bolt and tell you the size in metric and standard and all that… Plus I’m good with people, so I figured it wouldn’t be a bad summer job for me.

Adopt a dog. So many happy adventures for both the dog and you.

Thanks guys for your answers.
I have a job. I schedule myself to cover Calculus, Computer science, prepare stuff for colleges, study Spanish and Chinese, and apply for some scholarship/ essay writing contests. Then I have gym, and/ or morning jog/ exercise. Then I hang out with friends once in a while, mostly on the weekend.
It might sound a lot, but it does get bored. I want to go out there making friends, socializing, party, get wasted even, and my neighborhood is a bore. Hmm… What should I do? I just don’t want to spend time alone.

IceQube… They now call them models because this allows them to recruit employees based off of a look without a discrimination law suit, and to fire girls who get too big.

Cycle places! A distance that’s a bit too far to walk an be easy on a bike, plus it’s so much more fun.
Just feel grateful that you have a long enough summer to get bored in, I get 6 weeks and I already have plans for 4 of them :(

This. Basically, those people are attractive enough to be hired, and if they get ugly they can be fired. But they’re just regular employees who do the usual store stuff. Ya know the one direction guy Louis Tomlinson and his “Hollister model” girlfriend? Yeah, she’s just an employee.

dog adoption (or fostering?) and cycling sound like good ideas :).

Community service! Like, really meaningful ones, not just helping out in the library, but teaching little kids something you might be really good at, or just anything, except you really have to want to do it, love doing it, and it should really leave a mark in your memory.
You can also make a huge, huge reading list if you’re a bookworm, like me =) Or learn a language! OR travel x)
Summer is always beautifully long, so go out and enjoy it. :)
