Boston College Class of 2023 Early Action Thread

ACCEPTED, Weighted: 4.35, ACT: 36 (Non-Superscore), EC: Solid with All State Varsity Golf, Subject Tests: None, Essay: Good, Current High School is Jesuit

Accepted CSOM!!! 35 ACT, 720 Math II, GPA is out of 100 at my school I have like a 97 weighted. I think essays were pretty well written, My EC’s were very performing arts related I do dance, shows, voice lessons, etc.

4 years housing for nursing , scholarship athletes and top 10 percent of admitted students. The usual and fun path is first two on campus. Year three in local apartments with friends and all move back to larger and newer suites or mods etc for senior year on campus. Many students with 4 years do this tradional path anyway. And there are ways to petition for the extra year on campus if you really want it down the line. Don’t stress on this. It’s a historic pattern and everyone loves coming back for a big senior year together on campus.

is there a facebook page for admitted students?

Daughter accepted to MCAS. 3.8 UW GPA, 1520 SAT. Lots of ECs w/ leadership positions. Congratulations to all those accepted!

BC is known to look solely on stats during EA…hopefully RD will be a more holistic review with better results!!

Thanks @privatebanker! Thoughts on CSOM relative to Kelley for finance?

rejected! 29 act, 3.9 UW GPA, great ECs but weak supplement. was expecting it.

@Cavitee That’s a darn good option set to choose from, both outstanding.

I would say the quality of education would be a toss up.

The access to interviews and local east coast alumni connections especially in northeast. bc.

Boston as a place for college is really good.

Campus. I don’t know IU at all BC is traditional and pristine.

BC Jesuit roots in the common core (broad based liberal arts no matter the major) is real winner in my book. Some feel a waste of their time. To each is own on that one.

BC has big endowment and a lot new facilities. 12 to 1 student ratio. 50 percent of all classes under 20 students. I am sure Kelly is competitive there too. Not sure.

Price. BC is meets full need but uses css form and counts parental home equity. Which can make it expensive.

If BC a lot more - the value of state flagship is hard to beat. If you are in Good shape in that sense, I would choose BC for the tight knit community m and alumni connections. I’ve rarely met a bc alum not super enthusiastic about their time there and still strongly connected with the school long. after.

Our son got in!!
4.1 GPA
1520 SAT
Lots of AP’s and a decent amount of EC
Jesuit high school
Strong essays and recommendations

Does anyone know how many were accepted through EA?

That’s not true. I just got accepted into Boston College and had a 1340 and a 3.89, both below the average for BC. Had they not given me a holistic review, I would not have been accepted.

Got it BOYS!

I think coming from a Jesuit school is a huge advantage because I haven’t heard of anyone from my Jesuit high school being denied yet.

How many applied and how many got in?

@privatebanker -thanks again! The plot will potentially get thicker… my daughter is in at Kelley and CSOM but we live in NC (so Kenan-Flagler possibly) and I’m a UVa alum so McIntire may also be in the mix.
Just great to know she has really good options…

@cavitee
I would say there is definately a yes coming from unc in state with that level of a student. UVA as a legacy is probably a match to low reach too. Best of luck. Bc is a special place but definitely with a Boston/New England atmosphere. Which I think is a big plus for a kid long term especially if coming from another region.

4 years of housing are awarded to all full scholarship athletes, all students with physical disabilities, all nursing students and the top 15% of the incoming class. That all adds up to 50% of the incoming class, but if you aren’t one of the above mentioned groups, that means you are in the top 15% of your class. I believe they may do the 15% by certain diversity buckets. It is not strictly based on objective scores. My son got 3 years of housing. Many students who are offered 4 years of housing still only take 3 years, so you can petition to get a 4th. Congrats to all the top 15%!

So why do you think you got it? Legacy Other?
Stats lower than many Deferred.

I sense a lot of strong candidates were Deferred and some candidates with less stats did get in but no hook mentioned. Baffled by this. No one with my stats and ECs/leadership has ever been Deferred. I understand a lot of apps but I’m still a bit confused unless all these other ppl have an unmentioned hook.
