What does “Please note that you have been assigned four years of campus housing mean.?”
@qwerty1344 The acceptance letters say either three or four years of housing (top stats % of applicants and someone on this post said nursing, athletic recruits and those with physical need receive four). My sons are at BC now and got four years. Many students move off campus junior year or study a semester abroad. As seniors, they return to campus to mods (which we haven’t seen on a visit yet).
Hi Lindsey, it (the housing information) is from the BC website, and it was mentioned on my tour of BC, and my wife has worked there for 20 years… I think there are also some AHANA-related 4-year housing things as well. Although it is not mentioned on the website, empirically there are some other people who get 4-years…
If you were deferred to BC, by all means hang in there. Because of location, we know that Ivy applicants use BC as a back up of sorts, even though very tough to gain entry. Also in our area (southwest), we have two Accepts to BC that will not be going there—both unbelievable stats, but one accepted EA to Notre Dame and Georgetown, the other to Georgetown. Both were unsure if they could gain their first choices and dearly loved BC too. So it is not over until it is over. Keep your spirits up.
They probably accepted near the 3170 number, if ea is same as last year.
Only 2100 kids in class roughly and I believe that 60 to 70 percent come in rd round.
So they may accept another 4000 to 5000 kids from the 16k new applicants and the 10000 (guess) deferred.
My formula which could be way off btw is Ea round guesstimate of 16k applications minus 3k accepted minus 3k denied. So 26k total for 5000 spots in rd (8200 generally accepted 3170 in ea already)
19 percent chance in rd round.
So they already plan for yield in ea.
I wouldn’t t count on everyone walk from their spot. It all depends on applicant pool and totals. I think folks in deferred pool have a good shot but that means in the 25 percent range, like the basic acceptance rates.
And it appears the ea pool was loaded with super kids this year and many top students were deferred and are still waiting. Hang in there.
They said they anticipate 35,000 total applications. 16,000 came in EA, up 60% from previous year. They have 2300 spots, that’s 6.5% of kids. Now I know they are offering more than 2300 spots to fill the class. If someone knows the yield rate for BC you have all the numbers you need to figure out actual % accepted.
Stay hopeful everyone there a lot of room left for you! Anyone deferred or rd
BC accepted 8400 students last year 3170 in ea round. HS class of 2018 for BC class of 2022. Total of 31000 applications. 27 percent acceptance. This year expecting 35000 (based on post above and sounds directionally reasonable). That would indicate a 24 percent overall acceptance rate for 2019. Class of 2023.
For those that remain deferred and the new rd round applicants of 29000 would lead to a 17 percent acceptance rate. Assumed BC deferred 10k this round. 3k admitted. 3k denied. However denied could be much higher and deferred pool much smaller. This is definitely TBD.
This is all guessing on my part. But I would wager it is within the ball park if the 35k applications mentioned above is accurate.
35k total apps came from BC admissions, that’s what they expect after 16k in EA. Not sure how they are projecting that since EA was up 60% and I seriously doubt they expected that % increase in EA.
I trust you for sure.
I would consider them to be good judges. Using it to right size expectations with a little math. But obviously time will tell. But it’s a great school and worth the effort for the students.
@Oneiota The 60% increase (shift) was due to a change in the application process.
16k (EA) plus 19k (RD) = 35k
Seems plausible.
Yield rate for enrollment of admitted students (combined EA and RD) in recent years has been around 25-28%.
I got deferred but I’m not even that mad because of how below average I am for BC. I had a 1340 SAT, 3.91 W at the time of applying, only 4 APs, and a weak-ish junior year schedule (my school is notorious for messing up schedules so I was forced to take art and weight Training classes instead of more APs). I don’t even know how I wasn’t rejected tbh, my supplemental essay wasn’t even that good and was about my Catholic Faith so it probably turned them off. Hopefully my senior year grades and course load and new honors in the extracurricular will be able to help me out in the RD pool. Good luck and congrats to everyone!!!
Does anyone know whether BC tracks demonstrated interest and how heavily it is weighed in early action decisions? It is hard to tell from the format of their Common Data Set. Thanks
Does anyone know if the Presidential Scholarship invites were sent in the same email or will they come in a separate email/letter? I was accepted, I know it’s a super long shot, but I would like to know if I could still get an invite.
From last years ea thread “Also, for everyone curious, the Gabelli Scholarship Folder came in the same envelope as the physical acceptance letter.”
@privatebanker so we will be getting a physical acceptance letter in the mail in addition to the email? Thanks!
I don’t remember from last year. I only recalled the Gabelli conversations and hunted one down for you
ok, well thank you!
I would think because they didn’t have restricted EA this year the yield might be lower this year? Not sure I guess that could go either way, since maybe more kids will seriously consider BC now that they got in earlier?
Hey guys,
I was just admitted to BC a couple days ago, but I am wondering how the financial aid system works here. How do I see the package that I received? Are they even out yet? If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks!
