This forum was helpful last year (class of 2023) and I was surprised to see nothing posted yet for 2024 so here’s your prompt for venting, stressing, hoping and general anxiety relief. Interested to see what impact the new ED process will have on applications this year (I expect that total applicants will go down from the 35500+ last year but not sure what will happen with the total acceptance and enrollment rates)
How much do you think it will hurt an applicant who selects RD for financial reasons?
I applied ED1 to BC to give my application a bit of a boost. I have a 31 ACT, i’ve taken 8 AP classes in total (including this year). Ive passed all my ap tests with 3s and 4s. I wonder how much benefit is conveyed by applying ED. I think it will depend on the number of ED applicants. I hope they publish that info soon.
cleothetinycat If you apply ED and are accepted, the financial aid still has to meet your needs so you're not 100% committed until you get your FinAid package. That said, BC meets 100% of need and I thought it was pretty generous but they do consider things like home equity which works against people where home prices are sky high (New York, California)
@2024grad01 31 ACT might be a bit on the low end but the average for enrolled students was 32 (versus 33 for admitted) so you’re probably ok. BC is very service oriented so essays highlighting your volunteer work seem to help. BTW - BC doesn’t give full credit for AP scores but 4’s ( no 3’s) do get you out of having to take those core classes so you can choose more electives. A 4 on a language AP test also covers the foreign language requirement.
I applied ED1 to MCAS. Hoping that this will help me stand out in the applicant pool. I have a 1420 on the SAT and my EC’s are very service oriented. Based both my common app essay and supplemental on service and how it has helped me/how BC will help me in my service work. Hoping there wasn’t a substantial amount of ED1 applicants (they were expecting 2500-3000) over the two rounds according to my admissions officer. We will see how it all plays out in the next few weeks.
Wow, that’s a big change from 15800 EA applicants. The schools I was following last year seemed to fill about 50% of their incoming class with ED (Vandy 54%, Rice 38%, Duke 50%). If BC is about the same, it could mean an acceptance rate from ED1&2 of 38%-46%. The ED acceptance rates at the other schools were about 2x the RD acceptance rate which kind of fits BC too (25% RD acceptance rate last year)
Good luck to all. Remember averages are just that, a mix. Many of the lower score ranges are used for specific admissions needs. Specifically athletics and other institutional priorities. You are all great and will find a wonderful home next year. Focus on your application and relative to what you can bring to the school to enhance its mission.
@T20hopeful2023 The website says they hope to fill 40% through ED 1 and 2, which would presumably be 920, for an acceptance rate between 30% and 46%, depending on how many ED 1 and 2 apps they get.
With the implementation of ED1 and ED2, what if any impact will this have on the overall acceptance rate, enrolled student profile and most importantly, yield? I do expect yield to increase slightly…
Our daughter applied ED1. I’m not expecting her to get in, but you never know. On the positive side, she scored a 33 in one sitting on the ACT, has worked 20+ hours since freshman year, average ECs and good volunteering hours. On the negative side, lower GPA (3.8 from LITERALLY the most academically competitive high school in the state), AND we are local (only 15 miles away). We shall see.
Should be easy enuf to model for a CSOM student. 
@bluebayou, Nope- Poli Sci major but does my Finance minor truly qualify me as a CSOMer? Trust me- they wont let me in the Club.
PS…CSOM students refer to A&S as the School of Arts and Crafts… and even the Econ students as fake CSOM’s students tying to get into business through the back door…
How can you tell the CSOM student from everyone else?

Pretty funny. Nothing wrong with a little good-natured track talking. Just remind them that they get class credit for ‘Intro to Excel’, something that you and every other student learned in middle school!

You are right, a Minor does not get you [lofty?] CSOM status; however, a Finance minor should still be able to easy model the yield.

I don’t know…might be a bridge too far…too many variables and unknowns. But for BC’s grade deflation, I may not want to give it a try - only to die on that hill.
Did anybody else receive a package in the mail today from BC? I only know of one other person who applied ED1 and got this…

It was a book/brochure wrapped in plastic. I can’t tell if it’s just for advertising though…
@bbfan1927 and @bluebayou I now have two questions to ask my BC sophomores at Thanksgiving! We haven’t heard the CSOM and MCAS comments before. Good luck to all, two years ago was EA, the app numbers will change.
@HSsenior1596 most likely advertising. I believe I received one of those last year after I went on my first information session and tour.
