Boston College Class of 2025 -- Regular Decision

Just looked at my son’s RD acceptance letter and it doesn’t say anything about housing. Can we assume 3 years guaranteed if it says nothing at all?

Yes. Unless it specifically states 4, you have 3 years of guaranteed housing.

I totally get it. My daughter was deciding between Pitt and BC last year. She really struggled because they are both great schools with different atmospheres. Your daughter will do great at either UVA or Pitt. Good luck to your daughter.

Thanks! It is great to have choices. Which one did your daughter end up picking?

We may lean BC, but we really are not sure. Waitlisted UVA, accepted with excellent merit at Richmond, Miami. My dd knows with no merit at BC, that is a big bill. Also got merit at Maryland, Fairfield, St. John’s, accepted at Binghamton and Penn State. Still waiting to hear from Cornell. BC acceptance came with no financial info, apparently, documents were missing. Major is business.

Awesome! Which school do you think he will commit to?

My son is pretty likely to pass on BC because we would have to pay full price, and that’s a tough pill to swallow given he has two sisters coming behind him. I just don’t think we can justify raiding our savings/paying $320K for an undergraduate education when he has in-state options like UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB. So he’s likely to end up at one of those or at Oberlin where he was given merit aid. FWIW as you decide, though: both my dad and brother went to BC and had fantastic experiences. And my husband went to Davidson (son didn’t apply – was a little too small for him given it’s half the size of his HS!) and cannot say more about how amazing Davidson is. Just a really, really special place. He always talks about having visited the Davidson campus on a (rare) rainy day and how it helped him pick Davidson over Pomona because EVERYBODY was so friendly and happy despite the fact that it was miserable out. Also talks about how special their honor code is at the school, how it set the tone and really worked. Had close connections with all the professors, small class sizes, amazing friends, study abroad and all the rest. Really love Davidson. Good luck with your choices! Those are all great.

Hi. I’m a BC grad and my D was accepted ED2. Freshman housing assignments between Upper and Newton are random. 60% percent will be housed on Upper and 40% on the Newton Campus. BC provides bus transportation between the campuses. Newton is a mile down the road. Those with 4 years of housing are not getting anything different from the kids that received 3 years of housing (in the sense of better dorms). All the freshman dorms are very similar.

Housing is mentioned in the acceptance letter received in the mail and that is the same letter in your student portal.

As cited on the BC website:
“The majority of Boston College students receive three years of guaranteed housing. Sophomore transfer students receive one year of guaranteed housing, while nursing students, Presidential Scholars, and certain student-athletes receive four years of guaranteed housing.”

19% acceptance rate this year according to BC admitted student webinar.

postcard…? didn’t get that lol

My daughter isn’t nursing or presidential or student-athlete and got 4 years. Probably would want to live off campus junior year with everyone else though.

It’s the same info that’s on our portals, all the admitted student virtual events
