My D too, waiting list on nursing

Yes, 4 years here too

Who here is leaning BC? What are your other choices? D is still considering Colgate, Richmond, Lehigh, Davidson and BC. Waiting on Vandy but that’s a super long shot. She visited BC back in Feb 2020 and felt like it was too big for her but we are revisiting anyway. Our tour day was rainy and we had to leave soon after the info session/tour and I don’t know that we saw everything there is to see.

4 years here offered for my son - I think it is their version of merit aid/honors as they really don’t have any otherwise?

Hi everyone! Just got accepted RD and I’m gonna share my stats and info since I wasn’t too confident in my GPA since so many applicants definitely have higher ones than me!

Accepted into CSOM (applied as marketing)
Stats and Academics

  • GPA: 4.34 W (upward trend since freshman year I had a 3.9 W and junior year I had a 4.7W)
  • ACT: 34 (higher on reading and english than science and math)
  • 10 APs (APUSH in 10th grade, AP Lang, AP Seminar, AP HUG, and AP GOV in 11th grade, and AP Research, AP Econ, AP Lit, AP Spanish, and AP Physics in 12th grade)
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: I have been in normal level math for all of high school even though my school offers AP Calc, which I thought would really hurt my chances since I applied to the business school
  • For AP Tests; I submitted 4s on APUSH and Lang, 5s on HUG and GOV
Activities (I think this was my best aspect)
  • Co-chair of charity event in my county (started in 9th grade)
  • Founder and President of my own club (started in 10th grade)
  • Editor-In-Chief of my school’s political review column (started in 9th grade)
  • Co-taught a class at my church, also lead social media campaign at my church (Started in 10th grade)
  • Peer Leader at my school for the underclassmen + advisor for the entire program (Started in 11th grade)
  • I had a business internship freshman year that was paid at a local vitamin shop, but I did not work too much there
  • I took a summer marketing course at Cornell and got an A in the class
  • I did Business Leadership Institute Summer Program at Mercy College which I applied to and was free to those selected
    Awards
  • Member of NHS, AP Scholar w/ Distinction, 3 community service awards from my school
    Everything Else
  • My rec letters were from my Junior year Honors Physics and AP Gov teachers. I went for classes that I was interested in and where the teachers saw my confidence in the material.
  • I believe my essays were important to my admissions. My common app essay was about going to spin classes, it wasn’t about anything objectively impressive. I wrote my BC essay about a Harry Styles song and its connection to my journey to self confidence. I took the creative and personal route and wrote about aspects of myself that weren’t anywhere else on my application.
  • I am not a legacy, I am white, I live in NJ, my parents and siblings all went to college in state.
  • I visited BC in person, but that was about all for demonstrated interest.

Ask me any questions that you have about the process! BC was in my top 3 schools so I am so excited that I was admitted!

My D has been accepted to BC with 4 year guaranteed housing. Is anyone not able to see their financial package? When my D goes to that tab it doesn’t show her the COA or any subsidized loans. How do we figure out what it will cost? Does everyone’s portal have the breakdown of the fees? We see nothing.

My son is definitely leaning towards BC. He is trying to decide between UC San Diego, Carnegie Mellon, and BC. Waiting to hear from Amherst and USC. All different options/strengths. I think – for his interests and personality – BC would be the best fit.

This may be a stupid question, but does 4 years of guaranteed housing mean that you do not have to pay for housing, or that your student will have access to on-campus housing (as housing in and around Boston is pricey and in demand)? My son’s acceptance letter states “as a member of our residential campus, please note that you have been assigned 4 years of campus housing.” I just took it to mean that he will have a spot in the dorm all 4 years (that we will pay for) if he chooses to live on-campus all 4 years. Somebody up-thread referred to it as in lieu of merit aid, which makes me wonder what guaranteed housing actually means.
I also am having trouble seeing the financial aid package even though all info was submitted.

It just means that you are guaranteed housing that you pay for. The in lieu of merit comment was meant to mean that it is simply an added perk for the top candidates. So while they don’t give merit, at least you got 4 years of access to housing that you pay for

That is what I thought. Thank you for clarifying!

Along that same line regarding housing, does getting 3 years mean that you are more likely on the Newton campus? And those with 4 years are likely to get better housing as a freshman?

I am reading it as housing on campus for 4 years is available; no need to look for off campus housing. No way will they exempt it’s payment. My D called the financial office and they pointed out 3 documents that we were missing. Though I clearly had submitted all the documents under FAFSA and CSS. No other schools said anything was still missing. D also inquired regarding the merit scholarships and they responded that BC doesn’t give any unless you are need based. Unfortunately BC just got dropped as a viable option for my D.

maybe you didn’t submit everything, or you didn’t put the Eagle ID on all submitted documents? If so, you should reach out to their financial aid counselor (like I did), and everything will be straightened out

D will not qualify for any aid (EFC is too high) so don’t really see the point of bothering. Finance office already told D that BC doesn’t do merit scholarships. NU gave her 10K. BU accepted with no merit. So far we are leaning towards either Pitt (@45k) or UVA (in-state @38k)

Tough to turn down UVA at half the cost (in state). D got into BC but WL at UVA.

Tough decision for D between UVA or Pitt. She intends to follow the Pre-Med track and though UVA is elite Pitt is strong in research and volunteering opportunities. She is really confused between the two. One pro for Pitt is that it is urban which was her preferred setting and a strong reason to apply to Boston schools in the first place.

No. Lots of kids we know who were admitted off of the waitlist are on upper this year and some with 4 years of housing are on Newton. Placement on upper vs Newton is random.

Great. Thank you.
