I can’t believe we’ll be getting our decisions in less than two weeks! Good luck to everyone applying. BC has been my first choice since the moment I stepped onto campus. Since it seems like I’m not the only one that wants to get some conversation started, I thought of a few things we could discuss (just finished a calc test haha). Anyone is welcome to answer or present new questions!
1.Forced triple to guarantee a dorm on upper campus vs taking a chance at being placed on newton
2.Top 3 favorite things about BC
3. Least favorite thing/thing you’re most worried about (because lets be honest, college is scary)
4. When/how did you know BC was the perfect school?
My answers:
As most of you can probably guess since I asked this, this is something I have thought about a lot lately. In my opinion, being close to campus is just too important for me to take the risk of being on Newton. Although I have heard that being with all freshman down there is awesome so I may change my mind.
2.THE CAMPUS, the way they run the business school, and the location
I would say I am most worried about being so far from my family. I live 12 hours from BC so it's scary to think that I would have almost no choice but to fly home if it was ever necessary.
When I was doing research I knew that BC hit all of my requirements (literally every single one) but it wasn't until I had my visit that I realized I couldn't imagine myself being happier anywhere else!
Can’t believe decisions come out so soon, I commented on this thread just before submitting my app and now we aer so close to hearing!! Good luck to everyone!! In terms of the questions above^^
My mom lived on Newton and even though Newton is notorious for being the less fun than upper campus she said it was awesome, of course she’s old so times could have changed but I feel like it could only get better! So if I am accepted and decide to go I probably won’t try to guarantee upper campus
I think one of the things I love about BC is the campus – it’s so pretty especially during fall and I just love the location in general, only 28 minutes from where my family just moved tho - I also love the sports and the school spirit, so excited to tailgate and all that
I think the one thing I’m worried about is socializing, so yeah tailgating is fun but since there are is no greek life I’m just wondering what the deal is with partying because I’ve read that people have to go into Boston to bars to drink and stuff and that just feels like a mission idk, and other than that I guess just making friends haha
Not sure how/when I thought BC was the perfect school - I just love the vibe and I have lived overseas in London for the past few years and right now I am in boarding school in England while my family is in Boston so it would be nice to attend a school that’s close to home
Again, good luck everyone!!!
Honestly being on Newton worried me. Having to take a bus to get to and from pretty much all my classes sounds awful. However, people that have Newton usually say they become really close with others on Newton and it has the best dining hall. I would prefer Upper, but would not take a forced triple over Newton.
I love the damous(so pretty!), being so close to a major city but not in one so it still has a somewhat secluded, defined campus, and the Jesuit ideals. I'm not religious but I love the Jesuit ideals like the well rounded education(core) and serving others.
The stereotypes of BC students are not great. I'm worried I wouldn't fit in as a minority, middle class from a rural area. Appearance matters s lot and it's very preppy are some stereotypes of heard and been confirmed by someone I know that goes there.
Everything from #2 is pretty much why I loved it. Visiting and seeing the campus in person along with experiencing Boston coming from a rural area made it seem perfect.
Oh I love this @rachb99 !
It’s crazy that it’s just two weeks away!
BC is my super reach, but I want to hear back even though I’m not expecting an acceptance!
I'm kind of in the same boat as you with the dorm situation... Being on main campus would bs ideal but being with other freshman could be fun too! Being with all the freshman at least puts you with other people in the same situation of being the first year away from home etc. that I'm sure everyone will relate to.
I love that you get the college experience with the city just a T away, the campus is absolutely beautiful, and as someone who is not very religious, I love the Jesuit education and values!
Same as you, moving so far away from home. BC is more than 14 hours away from my hometown, so that's kind of daunting, but I'm looking forward to the possibility!
They have a top ranked direct entry nursing program (direct entry is a big plus) and the proximity to Boston but still being able to study and live on a gorgeous campus! Best of both worlds!
HI everyone…BC mom here and alum. Awesome school for all of the reasons you guys seem to already know about.
I have a daughter in CSOM now and I can tell you, there is already so much career stuff going on. She participated in a lot of the career events this fall and has started building a network with some recruiters for internships/employment. As a parent, I feel like I am getting my money’s worth from that end.
As for Newton…I lived on Upper back in the 80’s and I considered myself lucky. However, my daughter got Newton and I can tell you her experience was better than mine. She definitely had a more bonding experience with her fellow Newton classmates and she really ended up loving it! The bus situation wasn’t bad…once you are used to it, it’s fine. Oh, and she used to study in the law school classrooms. She is on lower in Walsh this year and said she misses having those classrooms to study in. Newton was a nice escape and a great place to bond with other freshman, just like everyone has consistently said over the last 30 years.
Good luck…if you chose BC, you will be very happy! Oh and I think they made a bowl game this year…just beat Wake Forest in the last game! Go Eagles!!
not sure what they did last year but two years ago they snail mailed the decisions I think on a Thursday and some people got them Friday and some got them Sat and Monday. Based on that I would guess the end of the week, but might be more in line with what they did last year.
Last year the email went out on Wednesday December 16th at 6pm. Before that snail mail letters were mailed - and students got them a home around the 18-22nd of December.
The BC Admissions Twitter posted this at 4:03pm today: “Spring 2017 transfer and first-year applicants – check your e-mail! Decisions are out!” Have any class of 2021 applicants received an email yet?
“** Spring 2017 ** transfer and first-year applicants – check your e-mail! Decisions are out!”
this is for transfer students, I believe. You can be a first year applicant - and be a transfer student. Its for Spring 2017 admissions - not fall 2017 admissions (which is what this thread is for). The other thread shows some transfer students did get notifications today. @1234
Did you guys all get the email that decisions will be sent out on December 11th? Cause I never got it and it just says that I will get my response by December 25th
@c011e9e yea I never got it, but it might be because I didn’t verify my account until now in agora. Hopefully my application is still there atleast. Is there a way to check if I am early action?
@rhetorics I just asked my daughter to check her portal and we cannot find anything on there that says Early Action and she definitely activated her portal as soon as she was notified she could.
It says emails will be sent out on the week of December 11th, so decisions most likely will not come out on the 11th. It will probably be in the middle or towards the end of the week.
