Congratulations on your 1st year at BC. May I ask how you improved your application for acceptance after your deferral?

Anyone else struggling to decide in the next 4 days whether to ED2 to BC (second favorite) or hold out hope after ED1 deferral?

Is ED2 necessary with these stats???

3.97 U/5.2 W
IB Diploma
1520 SAT (740/780)
MCAS (Communication + Studio Art)
Solid/unique ECs including some basics (4 year varsity sport) and others related to major
Scholastic Art Awards
Majority female, catholic, unhooked, public school in northeast, full payer

Afraid of ending up at safety if both say no. Thanks.

Those are excellent stats and you should feel proud of yourself. It certainly looks like you should get in, but my hesitation is about your location. Are you from MA or somewhere else where lots of people from your high school apply to BC? That could make it a bit more challenging as they (like other private schools) also seem to value geographical diversity.

PS- These are just my thoughts. No one can really make the decision but you. Perhaps discuss it with your guidance counselor? If you wouldn’t be happy at your safety schools, want to go to BC and can pay—that’s an argument for ED2

I’m sure you’ll get in with those stats! I posted above w/my own stats and ECs since I don’t know whether or not i’d get in ED2.

On the fence regarding applying ED2. Are the financial packages released upon acceptance immediately or do you need to wait a bit to get your financial packages? A bit worried about that aspect.

Would it be advisable to submit a 1440 for RD?

I’m no expert and don’t have any particular insight into how BC uses scores. And of course, a 1440 is a fantastic score. But, my sense is that’s right on the bubble for BC. Last year BC’s 25% to 75% range was a 1430 - 1510, with a median score of 1482. A 1440 is technically in that middle 50% but on the low end, so I would go to the fallback question of “does the score enhance the overall application”? For example, if you have an unweighted GPA of 4.0, 10 APs with 4s and 5s, and an otherwise super stellar record, then maybe don’t send the 1440 (even though it’s a good score) as your record otherwise is so strong that the test score doesn’t really add value. If, on the other hand, you have a 3.6 unweighted GPA, with maybe fewer APs, then the 1440 might be adding value to your application, or at worst, be a neutral.

You may also want to consider the breakdown of the score. If you are a STEM person who wants to major in a STEM related field, and your score breakdown showcases a higher math score, and a somewhat lower English score, then maybe you send it as it demonstrates strength in the field you’re pursuing.

BC likes to have scores so I would submit. 70 percent of admitted students last year submitted test scores.

Would someone be willing to just take a look at my stats and see how decent of a chance I might have at getting in? I posted it above, not too far up.

He seems to have a great resume. What do you think was the problem? These poor kids have to jump through such hoops, killing themselves for years. It’s getting insane. My daughter is applying next year

I have a very general question now that our son is halfway through his EA acceptances and deferrals

do you all think that at a lot of these prestigious colleges that are receiving double if not triple the amount of applications, the admissions staff is going through each essay, recommendation letters, looking at course rigor, and community service etc., or are they sorting acceptances and denials solely by GPA because of the volume of applications to get through??

I’m thinking if it’s not the stats they prefer then they do a very quick read and move on. There has to be some separation of apps for the RD- doesn’t seem realistic to do two reads for an app that doesn’t meet their typical stats or other criteria but not certain just guessing.

Has anyone heard anything about Gabelli Scholarship?

Saw a post on Reddit that the OP was contacted about 6 days ago

In past years, finalists were contacted Jan 10 - 11th, so that’s consistent.

It is starting to look like that poster on reddit is a ■■■■■.
I called BC admissions Friday afternoon, 1/13 and was told that the process was not finished yet and the Gabelli emails had not been sent. She could not tell me an expected date.
I think they are behind previous years and wading through a ton of applications submitted by 11/1
