Boston College Early Decision. Class of 2025

My DS has applied ED I to Boston College, so I thought I would start a conversation for parents and students to share their perspectives and any information about the process now that the deadline for applications has passed…

My DS son’s stats:

Applying to Carroll
34 ACT (single sitting)
4.15 GPA W
2 sport varsity athlete, fall captain
Other solid ECs, APs and Honors Courses at rigorous private school in the South…

Good luck to everyone. Would be interested if anyone has heard anything about the number of ED applications and predicted release date of decisions…

Applying ED1 too! Last year came out on December 5th, but that lands on a Saturday this year. Usually, decisions are released on business days, so I’m expecting December 4th as a projected date.

Your sons academic stats place him in an excellent position. Two kids at CSOM with similar stats currently enrolled. Best of luck !

I was interested in the distance from students home. I have a student also considering BC next year but wondered the reason going from the south to BC.

Does anyone else have the “Check Your Financial Aid Status” tab? I think it’s new, but I can’t remember.

Regarding the desire to go school outside of the south, my son wants a completely different experience for college and fell in love with BC and the city of Boston when we visited. Dinner in the North End may have sealed the deal. BC checks all the boxes for him. Traditional campus, medium sized, easy access to a vibrant city, D1 sports, work hard/play hard but not Greek, great academics, including the core curriculum, and a top Business program. A true four seasons and some snow are a plus for him! His older sister took a similar path in choosing a school in the Midwest and she has done great.

Florida has a large contingent at BC. And good amount from the west coast too. 1000 students from overseas. Lots of east coast kids for sure but there are students from everywhere.

I just got the email saying that admissions decisions will be available during the week of November 30, has anyone else gotten this?

@2025student03 I also received this. Came here to see if I was the only one.

Confirming that my son received the same today. Good luck!

I applied Carroll RD:
Female - NJ Catholic School

35 ACT (single sitting 35 - MATH, 36 Eng)
1540 SAT (Superscored 770 Math and 770 Eng) Soph and Junior sittings( due to Athletics)
4.0 UW GPA
High School doesn’t rank.

Solid essays

Solid EC’s:
Multiple Varsity sports (starting as a freshman) also Captain.

Multiple years in clubs and leadership roles.
150-200 service hours.

Thinking of switching to ED2. Thoughts on chances?

Big help and you have the type of background that makes you a strong Ed applicant. If it’s affordable. Do it.

I did not a few days ago but I checked my portal today and now I have one.

A reliable source stated that 42% of their ED offers were extended to students who opted to submit test scores. Good luck everyone

I don’t have any more data, but I’ll post if he shares anything else. He is a high school counselor, so yes, the emails have gone out already.

Some more figures-

BC received over 1,950 ED1 applications and will offer admission to 41%. 30% of ED1 applicants will be deferred to the Regular Decision round, mirroring last year’s percentage. Last year, 15% of deferred students were ultimately admitted during Regular Decision. Additional students were admitted off the waiting list.

If you don’t want to do the math, that means 800 were accepted, 585 were deferred, and approximately 566 were denied. Hope this helps. Good luck to everyone tomorrow.

Does this mean that people who didn’t submit test scores were more likely to get accepted than those who did?

Not necessarily. It just so happens that 42% of those accepted chose to, but I don’t believe opting to submit scores put you at a disadvantage.
