Which would you choose and why? I think they're my two top schools as of now.

If you were to choose between Lehigh's IBE program and BC regular what would you choose?

Possible major: Econ

If you were to choose between Lehigh's IBE program and BC regular what would you choose?

Possible major: Econ

I think that I would choose BC because of its location, i must admit, Lehigh's party rep scares me a bit. :)

lol they are wild partiers. That kinda scares me too. WELL, it makes me nervous at least haha.

The thing that scares me about BC is that it's religiously affiliated so yeah. Don't know if i'm so comfortable with that but its a great school otherwise

Both are cool schools. I'd pick Boston College for two reason --- not to far from Boston and member of the ACC (football/basketball games, etc.).

lol yes I thought about that. The ACC is amazing. Lehigh is so ..randomly off in Pennsylvania but I don't mind that I guess? I'm used to not really needing to be near the city. I hardly ever go into NYC (I live really close) so I guess I'd be alright.

Go with BC. I disliked the atmosphere at Lehigh...didn't seem intellecutal. Even if you get wrapped up in the frat boy / sorority girl mood at BC, at least the surrounding area is more intellectual than lovely (not) Allentown, PA.

I've never been to BC, but my dad used to spend a lot of time there and loved the atmospher and I have a good friend who has good taste (I think) and is absolutely infatuated with this school.

haha I've heard that too. The time my friend visited lehigh these two kidjust yeled out "Lehigh's only about sex and drugs!" Of course that didn't happen to me when I visited haha but still.

I've never been to BC either. I have yet to visit. Everyone loves the school so far at least that I'veever talked to.

But people love Lehigh too. Plus it's really popular with kids in my area. Myparents would LIKE for me to stay closer to home, but wouldn't be dead set against going too far as long as Iconvinced them intoletting me go.

everyone on this site seems to love like BC...

I always had Lehigh above BC...and it was always my first choice over BC

I think that Lehigh has historically been viewed as a somewhat stronger school academically than BC, especially in science and engineering. It is also a smaller school, one half the size of BC. Because of its location, I think that Lehigh tends to be underrated. It has a 9:1 student/faculty ratio compared with BC's 13:1.

BC is very popular (a "hot school") of late, in part, because of its location, beautiful campus and selected athletic prowess (football and hockey). But it is relatively big, 9000+ undergraduates. Its reputation is largely regional (New England) and it doesn't travel particularly well outside of the region. It is a great place to go if you want a career in Boston where the "BC Mafia" (alumni network) rules. Academically, I think the education you'll get will be OK (there are some pockets of strength, but they are limited) but not outstanding. As Lehigh is underrated, I think that BC is overrated.

All in all, I think Lehigh is a better school overall academically. And I think the IBE program at Lehigh blows any program at BC out of the water.

I agree completely w/ BalletGirl...

BC is a much stronger school –*academically, at least. In terms of faculty productivity of research (http://www.academicanalytics.com/TopWholeSchool2006-07.html), BC is ridiculously good compared to Lehigh.

yeah...I always thought that the IBE program was supposed to be amazing. I've been thinking lately that I would rather have a job in NYC or somewhere in the mid-atlantic region rather than a job in Boston; although Boston isn't bad, this area is like my home. Plus, don't shoot me but I always found the NYC area is much more superior than that of Boston.

BC is popular. I have fallen into the love for BC. But Lehigh is highly revered in my school, not to say that BC isn't, but Lehigh is more so.

Everyone's told me to choose BC over Lehigh in general because the academics are "better."

Ahh so many different opinions it's hard to know which to go with.

Go with your instincts.

viva la dana--it sounds like you prefer Lehigh...go for it!! :)

lol it stinks because theyre so close to me in my mind. I've alwasy wanted to go to BC like when I was a sophomore/junior, and I've only recently had Lehigh in my mind so I'm trying to figure out which would be better.

I know I still have to get in and all but..
Which would give me better job opportunities? In the business world, I'm pretty sure BC is known more than Lehigh. Am I right in assuming that?

haha my friends have had some input in that. Since we're from jersey they're all like OMG LEHIGH!! haha. No one ever applies to BC from my school ever. I actually only think one person in the past five years has.

You need to visit both.

I graduated from Lehigh, although it's been a while. Most kids like it. It's fun though unidimensional. Another problem: back then cities in the east, like NYC and Philadelphia were crumbling, bankrupt, tired with falling apart infrastructures. So going to a beautiful campus in Bethlehem or Easton, PA or Ithaca NY was fine. In the past decade or so, cities have turned around, consequently urban campuses are more popular.

Basically the same type kid goes to either school. Relatively rich, white, from Greenwich CT or Millburn NJ. There's more diversity than when I went but still you don't feel the diversity like you do on other campuses.

I can assure you you can be EXTREMELY successful coming from either school. CC here tends to deify the ivies, but on a regional (and I mean definitely including the hugely populous DC to NYC to Boston corridor) and somewhat national scale these are two great and fairly well-known schools. Moreso BC because of sports.

I like the IBE program, it's a gem. Personally, by a hair, I might today choose BC, only because of its proximity to Boston, the ultimate college town.

lol yes I remember my friend and I were always like WE WILL SO GO TO BOSTON AND LIVE THERE. I have to visit and see Boston.

I'm sure there's little to no diversity at either school, but that's sort of what I was looking for. Not that I was looking for a completely white school since I'm asian and that'd be weird, but I'm used to that kind of environment and I like it...relatively.

Yeah I feel like sometimes when I'm on this site, I'll have to go to a really tremendous school to get a job haha. It's reassuring that at least I know I'll find a decent job from either.

AH see when March/April came around I was just thinking I'd look at the financial aid and see which school would be cheaper in the end. HORRIBLE idea but I guess that works. I know both are pretty bad...although I've heard BC is better somehow.

Viva, a friend of mine from Philly (who is asian) is an engineering major at Lehigh and loves it. Lehigh has a very good reputation overall.

yeah the thing is I want a school that isn't too diverse, but Idon't want a school that is just plain racist and close-minded. I think I've heard of cases at both...but I doubt they're that reliable of sources.
