Hello friends!
I was recently accepted into Boston College and Colorado College and I am really excited about both. The only problem is that I don't know which to choose!
If I go to BC, I would study Human Development
If I go to CC, I would major in Anthropology.
I would love to row for BC, but I also love skiing, which is a pro for CC.
I have family and friends in both places so the distance isn't an issue.
What do you think??

First of all congratulations. Great schools, however, the social environments are totally different. I also assume that academically they are very different because of CC’s block plan vs BC’s more traditional class structure. Also Boston vs Colorado springs, bigger vs smaller. You’ll have to consider more than sports. Have you visited both? What did you like about each?

Which part of the country do you come from?

As to skiing – Colorado College isn’t that close to the good slopes, a good couple of hours one way, at least (traffic can be a bear.)

As a Coloradan, I’d actually recommend Boston College. BC is closer to more interesting places: interesting cities, the beach and yes, even skiing (though admittedly not in the same class as the Rockies.)

CC is in Colorado Springs, a tiny island of liberalism in a very conservative/military influenced town. Yes, there are wonderful mountain activities fairly nearby. But otherwise your travel/exploration options are the “big” (not really) city of Denver… and possibly the exoticism of Santa Fe. Not nearly the sheer variety of things you can do from Boston College.

But hey, that’s just me. If the west beckons, you could do a lot worse than Colorado College.

I know nothing about Boston College, but Colorado College looked really good to my son. I’d recommend making the decision almost solely on the block plan vs the semester plan. Skiing, big cities, rowing, etc. won’t affect you nearly as much as that. Can you stand the thought of having nothing but [yucky class of your loathing] for a whole MONTH? Do you drool at the thought of immersing yourself in [really cool class you love] and not having to worry about anything else? Would you love to take a less-important-but-interesting class and not have to relegate its homework to last on the list because you don’t have time to do it all?

Very good point, GeekMom: block plan is the defining difference that should be focused on.

These schools couldn’t be more different…if you can handle the block plan, you really love the mountains, and are liberal, then got to CC.
