Boston College vs. Fordham

I need some help selecting my school! I'm a business major and I was accepted to Boston College's Carroll School of Management and Fordham's Gabelli School of Business. Fordham also offered a 15k per year scholarship, which is why the decision is difficult for me. BC would cost 60k per year while Fordham would cost 45k per year.

Is BC worth the extra money because it is a better school or would Fordham be the best value?

Would your opinion change if I planned to attend grad school or if I planned to get a job immediately after getting my undergrad degree?

Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance.

It all depends upon how you and your family are viewing that $15K a year. Is it something your parents can easily pay? How much more do you like BC over Fordham? Yes, BC is considered a “better” school in terms of ranking, rep and but not so much in name recognition, necessarily. How much that makes a difference in terms of job and grad school, I have no idea. Probably not a whole lot.

How did you get acceptance for both early? BC is a restrictive EA school, and you should not have applied to Fordham EA if you applied there.

@cptofthehouse‌ My family is certainly not rich. Not going to be easy to pay either amounts. I got accepted to both Early Action. I’m not sure who told you BC was restrictive, but that’s not true. You might be thinking of MIT?

BC has single choice EA which allows students to apply to other schools non-restrictive EA programs, so applying to Fordham EA was totally fine. As for which school to go to, that depends on what is important to you. BC, in my opinion, offers the whole package which is one of the reasons it is so popular. Top notch academics, great reputation and alumni base, Division I sports with a ton of school spirit (across multiple sports), beautiful campus in a great neighborhood and ridiculously easy access to a great, great city. Fordham has a lot of great qualities as well, the best being, in my opinion, proximity to NYC and what that means for job opportunities. If your main priority is having a great job in NYC after college, Fordham might be just as good of a choice as BC because the students there get awesome internships and there are lots of alum in NYC. But if you want more of the whole college package, BC might be worth the extra money. Good luck with your decision!

If finances are a major concern, go with Fordham. BC has a great reputation and location, and is a fabulous school. However, 15,000 dollars a year is enough to compromise for, in my opinion, especially if you are considering grad school. NYC is great, and Fordham is a solid school. Best of luck!

Thank you @collegemomjam‌ and @Qwerty568‌

Carroll School of Management is very expensive, but it has a much better reputation than Fordham. But you should take cost into consideration.

There won’t be a lot of difference for you professionally whether you choose BC or Fordham and academically you will be challenged at Fordham too, the alumni network is excellent, and the location can’t be beat. The difference is football, but that’s not worth $15,000 - if you really love watching football, you’ll get to enjoy professional sports. :stuck_out_tongue:
If the 15,000 difference means your parents would have to take a loan, it is NOT worth the debt. Absolutely not. It’s not like you’re asking about UTampa vs. UMiami, here.
However, I’m concerned that even 45k at Fordham sounds like it’s too much for your family - and it would be for many families, indeed.
Where else have you applied?
Wait until you have financial aid packages from all your schools before you decide.
