Boston College Waitlist Class of 2020

My son was waitlisted too. I checked the Common Data set for previous info on the waitlist but could not find the right info, so I will ask the question here - how many applicants were waitlsted last year and how many were subsequently accepted off of the waitlist? Thanks.

Waitlisted CSOM. 2110 SAT, 4.0UW/4.65W GPA. Hopefully ND comes through and I won’t have to worry about this anyways.

@londondad https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/boston-college
among the 3897 applicants who accepted the waitlist offer, 351 were accepted, which is a 9% acceptance rate.

Waitlisted with 34 act and 97% weighted cumulative GPA. Does anyone know if we need to send second semester grades to the colleges that waitlist us?

@Colleggeeee Thanks

Dear sungjong : Your question regarding May 1st deadlines comes up every year. Secure your spot at one of your colleges to which you were accepted (typically a $500.00) deposit. If you are called from the Boston College waitlist, you will be given 24-48 hours to accept the spot. You will place a deposit at Boston College in that case and likely sacrifice the $500.00 deposit at your first school.

Dear londondad : The waitlist profile changes every year so knowing the previous year’s data does not really help the case for your son or daughter - the range can be ~10% (last year) or substantially lower as previous years. This year’s class is sizing up to be around 2,280 registrants. The yield is always difficult to know apriori. This is why I always recommend waitlisted families to move forward with their acceptances and treat the waitlist decision as a rejection. Move forward with your positive responses. If something changes, you can come back to the decision process as needed.

Dear iknowvapetricks : Do not be in a rush to file additional material to Boston College. Get your choice secured from those schools to which you were accepted. That is your best immediate course of action.

Dear Readers : Just an addition quick note - many students that have been accepted will now start writing about the terrible financial aid packages that they received and will argue about Boston College’s need-blind, 100% demonstrated financial need policy. Many students will drop out once they receive the bill. Stay tuned if you are waitlisted, but be sure to move to selecting one of your acceptance schools.

@BureaCat Same! I’m nowhere near as confident now as I was before…

Does anyone know if we’re allowed to send 3rd quarter grades? I know they said that the only additional material they will accept are grade updates, but I don’t know if quarter grades count.

9% of the wait list accepted is likely a decent number compared to other schools. And it would represent 15-17% of the total freshmen class. But BC had a big surge in apps last yr, so likely had a harder time predicting yield and was conservative with admits, leading to more coming off the wl. No guarantee that happens again this yr

Hello, all!

I think I could be the only waitlisted for Lynch School of Education. Anyways, my UW GPA is 3.5, W GPA is 4 and I’ve got a 2080 SAT. Anyone else being in Lynch, or knowing anything about my possibility of getting off the waitlist (as it is by college) please let me know!

Good luck, everyone; and please know that BC doesn’t waitlist a lot of kids (compared to other schools) so we are actually good enough to be accepted already! :slight_smile:

Best Wishes.

I was waitlisted as well aghh! I applied to Connell. My stats are:

3.7 GPA UW (school doesn’t weigh)
2190 SAT, 1430 M+R
800 on Literature SAT II

REALLY hoping I get accepted eventually, I really love BC!

Waitlisted BC and rejected by ND :frowning:

@EmCollege333 Idk how you didn’t get in you’re super smart.

@Blucas I didnt even bother applying bc it was such a reach haha. sorry though :frowning:

Waitlisted CSOM with a 32 ACT, white male from NJ

@actssmart aww thank you so much- praying for an acceptance!!
Does anyone know if we are allowed to send extra recommendation letters?
Also do you think sending an email about how the school is my first choice, all the ways I can see myself there, etc., could help?
Thank you!!

@EmCollege333 yea definitely! Telling a school u are interested definitely helps.

I’m def going write something short, but based on the “rules” they sent, you can’t call the office which is kinda weird. Anyone know more about that??

Hint to those on the WL: search the BC thread for posts by scottj who explains well how to craft powerful and persuasive essay on ‘Why BC?’.

Good luck.

I am kind of paranoid. When you guys accepted a spot on the waiting list did you receive an email conformation, because I did not
