Boston College

  1. What are the most impacted colleges or majors at BC?
  2. Please let me know if BC takes these into consideration in their application

Nationality
Ethnicity
Religion
Demographics
Intended Major (e.g. Linguistics)
Weighted GPA (do they prefer weighted or unweighted?)
Rigor of classes
Rigor of high school
Family Income

And yes, I did look at their website.

Impacted majors only exist in California public colleges.

BC admissions is very proud of its holistic application review. Stats are important but the essays carry significant weight and should reflect at some level Jesuit-like commitment to social impact. Religion is looked at for certain scholarships only. You apply to a specific college as determined by your intended major. While demonstrated interest is not considered (as it advantages applicants with the resources to get to Chestnut Hill) the best way to get a sense of the BC admissions philosophy is to meet with its representatives.

@Oregon2016 There are many free ways to show interest, one is as simple of opening their emails instead of deleting them unread. Colleges can tell!

can they really?? @TomSrOfBoston

@shana1 Yes…Many email providers allow you to check the "fate’ of sent emails. Whether it is ever opened or not.

@TomSrOfBoston:
That’s highly dependent on the mail client of the recipient.

Mailer’s like Microsoft Outlook were known to do that, but many others do not.

Some colleges have the ones that provide it.

But that only works if the recipient’s mail client supports it. Gmail now does (as of a year or two ago), but users can disable it.

I’m sorry but I really need to correct what TomSrofBoston said, Boston College does not in anyway track demonstrated interest whether it is coming to campus for a tour or information session let alone tracking if you have opened up emails from the admissions office. In fact I have never heard of a university doing such a thing.

In fairness to TomSrofBoston, he never said BC tracks demonstrated interest or emails. He just noted there are many free ways possible.

I know someone who works in admissions in another Boston area college. She said they do track who opens the emails that the admissions office sends. Though they realize that not all mail clients used by the applicants support it.

@Eagle1095

MANY colleges track demonstrated interest - to varying degrees of importance. Please go to collegedata.com and look up a school, click the admissions tab- in the admission factors section it has “Level of Applicant’s Interest” as a choice. Some school track as very important (Holy Cross) and others don’t factor it all (BC).

And yes - EVERY marketing email you get in your personal email can easily (VERY EASILY) provide a report to the company sending it and it shows if you opened it, clicked through the email, deleted it before reading, deleted it after reading etc… Some email clients block it, but most do not. Colleges that track interest most certainly look at these reports during the final decision process to HELP determine if the applicant is really interested in the school or using it as a safety.

@suzyQ7 I never stated that colleges don’t track demonstrated interest, I only stated the Boston College does not track it to be clear for future students wondering if BC tracks interest. I know of many schools that keep track of when you visited or how many times you contacted the office.

@eagle1095 OK. I was responding to this part of your message:

…In fact I have never heard of a university doing such a thing.
