My S applied EA to Carroll. Plusses fro him are 3.94 UW GPA, 4.35 W., 2250 SAT with 800 SAT Math 2 Subject. Student Body President, and strong letters of rec.
Weakness, Essays are just so so. He never visited, went to a local event, or interacted with Admissions. Lastly, we will need Financial aid, and qualify on the NPC.
With that in mind, will his chances be less. I would think holistically, he is admissible. Will the other stuff interfere? opinions from those who have experience with BC’s process?
BC does not consider interest. When I went there for a info session and tour, there was not sign in sheet, so there must not be any record of it. BC was the only college I visited from 10+ that did not record attendance, so I would believe them when they say interest does not matter. However, the info session and tour did make it easier for me to write my BC essay and how it was a good fit for me.
When we visited we were also told that they don’t have anyone sign in because they don’t track visits. They are need blind so the fact that you need financial aid shouldn’t matter with admissions either. The essays could be an issue though as they have so many qualified candidates that the essays are likely to be an important factor in the decision. Just my .02.
Glad to hear that they don’t track admission. While I knew they were need blind, I never quite believe that…Guess we will find out soon enough.
Some schools have such large endowments that they can easily afford (and want to) to take the best (in their eyes).
Few facts: BC does not take demonstrated interest into account for acceptance. Also, if you read prior posts, many have noted their severe disappointment in how little financial aid they received. Although not affiliated with BC in any way, I believe for S numbers are very competitive and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get an acceptance.
Thanks for the insights…I will let you all know results when we get them.
@BigPapiofthree Did he get in?
The BC application has a required supplemental essay. Taking the time and effort to write that shows a certain level of interest.
@acron611, Yes he did get in to Carroll School of Mgt. Sorry, I forgot to update here. We will visit in March, after we hear about Aid…
