I'm not sure of an exact number, but I'd say around 50 for how many are going. I know that the boys outnumber the girls this year, which is pretty neat. The kids have already started a BoCo myspace and there are 30 members (not only mt, but vocal, music, etc.) already! If you look on the BoCo website, under Theatre, then under Senior Showcase, you can see pictures of those who are in the Senior class. There are about 31 listed.

Thanks Lynn. That information about this year correlates a bunch with what they told us last year. Also at that time it was early March so they did not truly know their yield. They said they wanted to yield 60 but I don't know how many actually went. The senior friend (last year) mentioned about 30 remaining in her class. So, if about 50 are going this year and the showcase had about 31, that is in the same ballpark. In any case, I'm excited for your D and the others on here because it seemed like a great program. The talent in the show we saw was excellent!

I remember (a while back) someone posted about a place to stay near Boston Conservatory that was pretty reasonable. I've tried to search for quite a while, but can't seem to locate the information. If anyone remembers the name of the place, or where I could find the thread, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Our d just got her info. packet yesterday...in it was a website that we booked hotel reservations through when she and her dad visited Boston in April. It's www.campusvisit.com (sorry I don't know how to paste the link) it shows all the hotels in the area and the rates - as well as lots of things to do in the city. Hope it helps!

Surprise - surprise...it does it automatically!

Hi. I just finished my freshman year at boco so I think i can answer the numbers question. They expect about 55 people to come to the school and they expect 25-30 to graduate. During my first year our class lost about 8 people so numbers do fluccuate, but that is more or less what will probably be this year.

What are the common reasons for people getting cut from the program? Are there many surprises? You hear a lot of conflicting information on this topic for all schools that cut people, so I'm curious about BoCo since I will be attending as a transfer student this fall.

Hey there.. I know this question is kind of general.. but I'm curious as to what the male talent pool is like. I auditioned last year and was not accepted, although I think that was because I did poorly on my audition, selected bad material, and was a C- average student in high school. This year I have an audition coach and vocal coach, as well as a better knowledge of the audition process.

But do you notice any trends? Do they tend to accept more tenors? Are they really looking for minorities? I actually have a clip of me performing posted on youtube.. if you wanted I could send u the link.. tell me if theres any chance of me getting in hahaa.

Well at Boco there really isn't a cut system. What there is, is a review called "Promotionals". This review occurs after your first semester of Sophmore year. The student performs musical selections and acting selections for a panel of the faculty. Based on your performance, you will either pass or not pass. If you pass then you are home free through graduation. If you do not pass you will get put on probation for a semester and you will be allowed to redo your promotional after the semester. If you do not pass again you will be asked to leave the program. However, if you do not pass you are able to to conviene a hearing on you behalf (if a faculty member is being biased for example). I personally know several people who have been put on probation and who passed after a semester of hard work. It is not something that a person should really worry about.

As far as the male talent pool goes, it pretty much runs the gammet. My class had pretty much equal number tenors and base/baritones at the start of the year and we lost some from each section making it more or less even again. There are all different type of guys too. Short, tall, skinny, less skinny, good dancers, bad dancers.... A poor audition could easily explain why you didn't get in. At boco the audition is everything. They don't really care about your grades as an acceptence factor. As far as minorities go, most of my class is white. We have only two black students. So they probably look fondly to minority students who want to come. The lack of them prohibits us from doing certain shows (ie. RAGTIME) lol. I do know other minorities who have been accepted to the school, but were unable to attend for various reasons. Either they decided to go to another school, or boco was too expensive or other things. If you wanted me to I would be happy to look at your mytube video. You can send me the address in a PM. If you have anymore questions, just ask.

Thank you for all this great info! I have one more question. :)

Do you know the line-up of shows for next year's season at Boco? I can't seem to find anything about it on the website. Thanks!!!

Samia- I hope you post a couple of times next year about your experiences at BoCo. You have a unique perspective, and we all want to hear great things about your college experience.

Last year I recieved the season via mail in July. I do not know anything solid as of yet, but I do have suspicions (which I will not post cause I do not want to be wrong). I expect that students will recieve season announcements within the next couple of weeks.

If any admitted or prospective students have anything that they do not wish to discuss on the board, or if they just want to talk, they can PM me and we can go from there.

samia - are you on the boco myspace for freshman? Go on...they list the shows for this coming year. New students received mail this week from boco...

I read on an earlier post that the tap audition here was optional...is that still true?

Yeah, I guess you could call it optional. I did my dance audition (in Boston) and Michelle Chasse, the woman who will probably be at your audition, said that if anyone wanted to tap really quick, we could stay. I stayed and we just did some short combinations to see where we stood as tappers, but it wouldn't be the deciding factor of whether you get into this school or not. If you have experience, go ahead and stay so she can get a better picture of you as a prospective.

I'm kind of upset!! My dad doesn't want me to apply here anymore! Because a friend of ours who was on Broadway for 10 years told us BoCo doesn't give you a BFA? Is this true?? Cause if so my dad won't let me go regardeless of it's rep!

OF COURSE YOU GRADUATE WITH A BFA!! That is ridiculous!

I actually GO to BoCo, so I think I would know! lol

They have a masters program too where you can get an MFA!

False, false, false! And you can tell your father so!
